Trump thanks CNN host: ‘Even they say Comrade Kamala Harris is a phony!’

Former President Donald Trump offered rare praise of CNN over calling out Vice President Kamala Harris for her shifting position on the border wall.

The Republican presidential nominee took to his Truth Social platform to post a message thanking anchor Erin Burnett, adding a video of Sky News covering the segment in which Burnett noted a KFile report on Harris’s changing views on Trump’s border wall.

“Thank you to Erin Burnett and CNN. Even they say Comrade Kamala Harris is a Phony!” Trump wrote, referring to the CNN segment covering the report during the “Erin Burnett OutFront” show last week.

Though consistently blasting Trump for the construction of the border wall during his presidency, calling it his “vanity project,” Harris is now positioning herself as someone who is tough on the border and immigration.

In a recent campaign ad, she is touted as a “border state prosecutor” who backed “the toughest border security bill in decades.”

According to the KFile report last week:

A CNN KFile review of Harris’ social media posts found that she criticized the border wall more than 50 times during the Trump administration, calling it, among other things, “stupid,” “useless,” and a “medieval vanity project.”

As she tries to strengthen her image on the border, Harris will have to reckon with her years of opposing some of the very policies she now embraces. That includes building more border wall and also making it harder for migrants to come to the US seeking asylum.

Burnett noted how Harris’ past statements about the wall were coming back to “haunt” the Democrat nominee as she spoke with CNN’s KFile Senior Editor Andrew Kaczynski about the shift.

“She’s using his wall that he built to say, ‘Look at what I did’?” Burnett asked at one point.

“That is a portion of wall that was actually built by Donald Trump,” Kaczynski said of the images used in Harris’ campaign ad. “It was built in an area where there was no previous wall, it was actually pretty controversial when they were building it at the time.”

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) does not think Harris is doing an about-face but is being “pragmatic.”

“I don’t think she’s abandoning her ideals. I think she’s trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election,” he told “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday.

The Trump campaign noted that Sanders said the “quiet part out loud.”
