Trump to hit ‘degenerate’ NY Times with $15B libel and defamation suit

Taking his hometown’s paper of record to court, President Donald Trump announced an 11-figure suit against what he called a “virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”

Less a threat than a promise, Monday evening, the chief executive announced that he was following through with his plans to file a lawsuit against the New York Times. Slamming the Gray Lady as being among the “worst and most degenerate newspapers,” Trump didn’t hold back as he accused the outlet of a “pattern of abuse … both unacceptable and illegal” as he sought $15 billion.

“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the History of our Country, becoming a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party,” began a Truth Social post from the president. “I view it as the single largest illegal Campaign contribution, EVER. Their Endorsement of Kamala Harris was actually put dead center on the front page of The New York Times, something heretofore UNHEARD OF!”

“The ‘Times’ has engaged in a decades long method of lying about your Favorite President (ME!), my family, business, the America First Movement, MAGA, and our Nation as a whole,” continued Trump.

He went on to mention separate previously settled suits involving George Stephanopoulos and “60 Minutes,” and wrote, “I am PROUD to hold this once respected ‘rag’ responsible, as we are doing with the Fake News Networks such as our successful litigation against George Slopadopoulos/ABC/Disney, and 60 Minutes/CBS/Paramount, who knew that they were falsely ‘smearing’ me through a highly sophisticated system of document and visual alteration, which was, in effect, a malicious form of defamation, and thus, settled for record amounts.”

A Monday court filing, which also named four reporters and the publisher Penguin Random House, alleged, “Defendants maliciously published the Book (‘Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success’) and the Articles knowing that these publications were filled with repugnant distortions and fabrications about President Trump.”

This legal action comes as the president had also brought a suit against the Wall Street Journal following its publication of a 2003 birthday missive to Jeffrey Epstein, alleged to have been from Trump.

It also comes as Trump had shown himself aware of calls to restore the Smith-Mundt Act after he had shared a post from a supporter calling for the legislation to be renamed the “Charlie Kirk Act,” holding corporate media accountable and putting an end to “propaganda and half truths” in honor of the Christian patriot who was assassinated for exercising his First Amendment rights.

Sunday, Utah Sen. Mike Lee (R) announced, “In the coming days, I’ll be filing my previously drafted legislation to restore Smith-Mundt, and renaming it the Charlie Kirk Act … Domestic, political, government-funded propaganda must end now.”

In concluding his post about the Times, the president expressed, “They practiced this longterm INTENT and pattern of abuse, which is both unacceptable and illegal. The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW! The suit is being brought in the Great State of Florida. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
