The Trump-Vance campaign threw cold water on Democrats who were salivating over a debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and the newly minted Republican VP nominee, Sen. J.D. Vance.
Once former President Donald Trump announced Vance as his running mate, Democrats began claiming Harris would wipe the floor with the former Marine on a debate stage.

CBS News soon announced it would air a vice presidential debate on Monday, August 12 and the Biden-Harris campaign team accepted the date.

There was only one problem.
The Democratic National Convention kicks off in Chicago on August 19 and Harris will not officially be named the vice presidential nominee until that week.
The DNC Convention starts the week after that debate.

The Trump-Vance campaign responded to the debate discussion by poking at the uncertainty of the Democrat ticket.
“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention,” senior Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement. “To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”

Biden campaign spokesperson Brian Fallon tried to fire back, claiming Vance was “refusing” to debate Harris.
“Donald Trump is the one whose campaign said he would debate ‘anytime, anyplace’ and who picked JD Vance specifically for his debating skills,” Fallon said in a statement.
“Now suddenly right after a damning new leak showing his support for a nationwide abortion ban, Vance is backing off a debate against Vice President Harris, who has spent the last two years prosecuting the case on behalf of reproductive freedom,” he added.
