Donald Trump’s campaign has used the candidate’s opposition to the war in Ukraine as an advantage over the rest of the Republican primary field, touting that he is the only one saying he will end the war — Trump has repeatedly claimed that he would end the war in 24 hours if elected president.
On Sunday, during an interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, Trump threw that entire narrative and any advantage that he may have had because of it out the window when the former president called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “very honorable” and said he would send the country “more than they ever got” under President Joe Biden.
Bartiromo asked Trump how he could end the war in 24 hours and his answer was not consistent with the opposition to supporting Ukraine seen from many in the MAGA base — nearly 96% of the pro-Trump crowd surveyed at last week’s Turning Point USA convention said they did not support U.S. involvement in the war.

“I know Zelenskyy very well. I felt he was very honorable because when they asked him about the perfect phone call that I made, he said it was indeed perfect. He said it was, he didn’t even know what they were talking about. He could have grandstanded, ‘Oh, I felt threatened,’” Trump told Bartiromo.
“Well, that’s not going to be enough for Putin to stop bombing Ukraine,” the Fox News host interjected.
“No, no, no, no. I’m not saying that. What I’m saying is that I know Zelenskyy very well, and I know Putin very well. Even better,” Trump replied.
“And I had a good relationship, very good with both of them,” he added. “I would tell Zelenskyy no more. You got to make a deal. I would tell Putin, if you don’t make a deal, we’re going to give them a lot. We’re going to give more than they ever got. If we have to. I will have the deal done in one day.”
Twitter influencer Ian Miles Cheong, who shared the clip above and has been favorable toward Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, had these thoughts about Trump’s remarks:
Furthermore, how is Zelensky honorable? Zelensky deliberately ignored the Minsk agreements and continued to wage war on the separatists in the Donbass. He admitted that it was just to stall Russia while it built up its military. It is what caused the invasion. Honorable?

So he will continue the Biden policy. Lovely……
But I was told Ron Desantis was the neocon.
Now I’m assuming the trump fan club will be for Ukraine aid— David Biddle (@davidebiddle) July 16, 2023
