President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will “make America’s showers great again,” repealing former President Biden’s move to restrict water flow.
The White House announced the order will “end the Obama-Biden war on water pressure,” and directs the Energy Department to “immediately rescind the overly complicated federal rule that redefined ‘showerhead’ under Obama and Biden.”

“In my case, I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair,” Trump said to laughs in the Oval Office as he signed the executive order. “I have to stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous.”
“President Trump is restoring sanity to at least one small part of the federal regulations, returning to the straightforward meaning of ‘showerhead’ from the 1992 energy law, which sets a simple 2.5-gallons-per-minute standard for showers,” a White House fact sheet announced. “The Order frees Americans from excessive regulations that turned a basic household item into a bureaucratic nightmare. No longer will showerheads be weak and worthless.”

“Minimum water efficiency standards for toilets, showerheads, faucets, and urinals have been in place since the Federal Energy Policy Act was passed under President George H.W. Bush in 1992. That law required showerheads to not pour more than 2.5 gallons of water per minute,” Newsweek noted. “Under President Barack Obama, the administration clarified that the 2.5-gallon-per-minute limit should apply to the total water flow from all nozzles in a showerhead, recognizing that many modern models include multiple spray heads.”
While Trump took on those standards during his first term in office, former President Biden reinstated them, contending they would help the environment and save Americans money.
“Overregulation chokes the American economy, entrenches bureaucrats, and stifles personal freedom,” the White House fact sheet stated. “Americans pay for their own water and should be free to choose their showerheads without federal meddling.”
“We’re going to get rid of those restrictions,” Trump said. “You have many places where they have water, they have so much water they don’t know what to do with it. But when people buy a house, they turn on the sink, and water barely comes out. They take a shower, water barely comes out. And it’s an unnecessary restriction.”
