Matt Gaetz accuses WaPo op-ed of ‘green-lighting’ Trump’s assassination

The anti-Trump left is in panic mode over recent polling showing Donald Trump beating out President Joe Biden and has been countering with full-on fear-mongering, claiming “democracy” would cease to exist in America if the former president is granted another term.

Amid plenty of comparisons to Adolf Hitler, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic have all run recent stories referencing a “Trump dictatorship,” and it was the WaPo editorial penned by neocon Robert Kagan, in which he likened Trump to Caesar, that drew the attention of U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz.

“Like Caesar, Trump wields a clout that transcends the laws and institutions of government, based on the unswerving personal loyalty of his army of followers,” Kagan wrote.

According to the Florida Republican, there is a sinister plot at play here.

“They’re obviously green-lighting assassination,” Gaetz tweeted while sharing Kagan’s column.

Former Democrat congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard shared that point of view during an appearance Friday evening on Fox News.

“The thing that really bothered me the most about Kagan’s op-ed and many others who continue to warn the country that Donald Trump is going to be like a modern-day Hitler is that they’re also the kinds of people who, and we hear this all the time, people say gosh if back in the day if only one person had the courage to stop Hitler, to take him out before he rose to power, then we would’ve saved millions of lives, well this is what they’re essentially saying, this is a message…,” she told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“They’re sending a message to a rogue actor or lone wolf saying, hey, we need someone to save our country from this modern-day Hitler-like person,” Gabbard continued. “And that is what is what should alarm every single American. This is not how the United States of America is. This is not who we are, and yet this is what these people in positions of power are doing and abusing their power and undermining our democracy because, in their minds, the end justifies the means.”

Social media users were certainly on board with the idea that assassinating Trump could be the end play here, including actor James Woods:
