Chris Christie got some good news last week when he hit the donor threshold that punched his ticket to the first Republican debate next month but won’t be satisfied until he is able to complete his kamikaze mission by goading former President Donald J. Trump into joining him on stage. He also expanded his target list to Tucker Carlson.
The former New Jersey Governor was once again featured on the Sunday morning political talk shows where he continued his attacks on the current frontrunner whom he clearly hopes to bait into a nationally televised ambush that Trump has indicated that he isn’t likely to participate in, leaving Christie to keep rattling his cage in the hope that he comes out to play.
Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” where he is on hiatus as a regular pundit, the former federal prosecutor predicted to host and longtime Democratic party loyalist George Stephanopoulos that Trump will show up in Milwaukee and that his ego won’t permit him not to because he would have to watch Christie insult him without being able to respond, hoping that the former president will take the bait.
“You know George, I do,” Christie responded to Stephanopoulos’s question on whether he believes Trump will be at the debate.
“I think he’ll be there because look, I’ve known him for a long time as you know, his ego I think will not permit him to have a big TV show that he’s not on,” Christie added. “And I think he’d be enormously frustrated sitting back in Bedminster and watching what I’m going to do to him on that stage in absentia.”
“Sounds like you’re baiting him to come in, ” said Stephanopoulos, showing that he’s a man with a real gift for stating the obvious.
“Look, I don’t think I have to but I’m happy to say right now, come on Donald. Get on the stage and defend your record,” taunted Christie. “You know, if you want to be the nominee you need to defend your record.”
“I’ve been in the race for five weeks, give me some time,” Christie added. “And when you can see already when he’s up at one o’clock in the morning posting on Truth Social about me, I think we’re in his head.”
C’mon Donald, get on the stage and defend your record.
What did you accomplish as President?
❌ Repeal and replace Obamacare
❌ Balance the budget
❌ Build a new wall on the southern border

Earlier in the segment, he also turned his fire on Carlson who grilled former Vice President Mike Pence over arming Ukraine at the expense of addressing decaying cities at home during a candidate forum in Iowa on Friday.
“I would have said, you’ve always been wrong about this, Tucker, and you’re still wrong,” Christie said when asked about Carlson’s stance.

“In fact, what’s going on is this is a proxy war with China. The Chinese are funding the Russian war by buying Russian oil. They’re coordinating with the Iranians to provide lethal weapons to the Russian army, and we can decide when to have this conflict. Right now, the Ukrainians are willing to fight this fight for themselves if they have our support to be able to win it. If the Chinese watch us back away from Ukraine as Tucker Carlson and others would advocate, believe me, the next move will be Taiwan,” he said.
While Christie’s sudden interest in foreign policy may make for good sound bites in a friendly environment, he’s apparently too much of a chicken to defend them under an adversarial line of questioning.
“Sounds like this could use a longer conversation. We just asked @GovChristie to sit down and explain his views on Ukraine. He refused. You hate to think that Chris Christie is a blustery coward who plays the tough guy with sycophants at ABC but won’t answer real questions, but who knows? We hope he reconsiders,” Carlson wrote on Twitter.

The candidate, who is polling near the bottom of a large field of hopefuls, also appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” where he continued his non-stop trashing of Trump.
“He’s a liar and a coward,” Christie told anchor Jake Tapper.
Following up his Sunday morning appearances, the blustering Christie took to Twitter to comment on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Fox News interview where he was also highly critical of Trump as he tries to cut into his lead, posting a meme from “Die Hard” the classic Bruce Willis action movie.

Christie is just itching to rock and roll with Trump, even boasting to Piers Morgan last week that he’d “kick his ass” in a fight.
Piers Morgan: “If you and Trump got in the ring…If you got in the octagon, you and him, who’d win?”
Chris Christie: “Come on. The guy is 78 years old. I’d kick his ass.” pic.twitter.com/1mRcT0Eidm

It apparently means little to Christie’s donors that he has yet to articulate a coherent set of policies or positive vision of what he would do for the nation as president, only that he is able to be maneuvered into position for a kill shot that would end Trump’s campaign.
