TV anchor resigns after being suspended for touching on-air tribute to Charlie Kirk

Following an on-air tribute to her “first boss,” Charlie Kirk, one anchor took a bold move, saying she believed herself to be the first “targeted for honoring him.”

The aftermath of the political assassination of the Turning Point USA founder has unearthed a parade of ghouls, anonymous and otherwise, as vile, celebratory sentiments circulate on social media. While a considerable number have faced consequences for their remarks, including now-former MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd, anchor Beni Rae Harmony for ABC affiliate WICS chose to resign after being suspended for a brief, “non-partisan” message recognizing Kirk’s influence on her life.

Monday evening, Harmony took to social media and shared the segment from Friday’s broadcast under the caption, “Effective immediately, I have resigned from @WICS_ABC20 after being SUSPENDED for airing a non-partisan tribute to Charlie Kirk this past Friday.”

“Many in the mainstream media have been fired or punished for mocking his assassination. I believe I am the first to be targeted for honoring him on air,” she went on and detailed, “Two days ago I lost a mentor, my first boss, the first person who made me believe in myself, that encouraged me to chase this dream that you’re watching right now: Charlie Kirk.”

“There’s a lot going on in our world right now in our country. But, I want to say one thing: lean on your neighbors. Speak up for what you believe in. I don’t care what it is,” the anchor continued to say before she shared a favorite saying from Kirk around the office, “When conversations stop happening, when individuals become wordless, that’s when violence begins.”

Harmony’s LinkedIn profile detailed her tenure at Turning Point USA from August 2021 through February 2022 as a producer and administrator, and her resignation noted, “This is guided by values that are essential to who I am, to which I refuse to set aside, in order to keep a job. I choose my faith, and love of country, and always will.”

During the on-air message, she encouraged those who choose to stand up for their convictions and beliefs, “and speak loudly, even if your voice shakes.”

Meanwhile, her social media message continued, “My resignation is guided by values that are essential to who I am, which I refuse to set aside in order to keep a job. I choose my faith and love of country, and always will. Thank you, Springfield. My home. My community. My people.”

“God Bless Charlie Kirk and his beautiful family, and God Bless these United States of America,” concluded the now-former anchor.

When asked how the public could support her, Harmony, who continued to receive messages of support and encouragement for her conviction, replied selflessly, “While I’m still looking for my next job in media, I recommend everyone support Charlie’s family first,” with links from Turning Point USA on how to do so.
