Elon Musk verified with the purchase of Twitter what was widely believed all along, that the social media platform was a liberal-dominated playground that conservatives were allowed to participate in under a different set of rules — rules that were more spoken than written.
The release of the Twitter Files showed that top-level executives were almost indistinguishable from Democratic Party officials as they colluded with federal agencies to shape the outcome of the 2020 election, but the political bias was not reserved for top brass alone. In what proves to be a remarkable stat, 99.73% of political donations in the 2022 election cycle went to Democrat candidates or committees.
“Employees working at the social media giant poured $185,000 into the 2022 elections,” Fox News reported. “Of that amount, $166,420 went to candidates and party committees. Nearly $166,000 (99.73%) of those donations benefited Democrats, while Republicans received around $500 (0.27%) from individuals at the company, according to OpenSecrets data.”
The reporting helps explain the cold reception Musk received within the company and the resistance the self-avowed “free-speech absolutist” saw in trying to establish a level playing field.
During a live Q&A session on Twitter earlier this month, Musk did not pull his punches in describing what he found.
“If Twitter is doing one team’s bidding before an election, shutting down dissenting voices on a pivotal election, that is the very definition of election interference,” the billionaire said. ”…Frankly Twitter was acting like an arm of the Democratic National Committee. It was absurd.”
Joseph Vazquez, associate editor at Media Research Center’s Business and Free Speech America, told Fox News Digital that the direction of the contributions speaks volumes.
“Money talks. In Twitter’s case, money screams,” he said. “The fact that the overwhelming amount of donations from Twitter employees was funneled into the Democrat political machine isn’t surprising.”
“The Twitter files that Elon Musk released should have just been packaged with the Democrats’ donkey insignia plastered all over them,” Vazquez added, “because being a tool to censor the Democrats’ political opponents is precisely what the Big Tech platform became in the U.S. before Musk’s acquisition.”
Be it the censoring of Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop from hell or the silencing of a sitting U.S. president in Donald Trump, Twitter’s actions consistently benefitted the Democratic Party.
The greater truth behind all the hoopla over Musk’s buyout of Twitter and the media’s all-out campaign to destroy him is that his actions threaten to expose the rank bias of all the major social media platforms — something conservatives were already acutely aware of.
On that note, OpenSecrets data shows that in the past election cycle, employees at Alphabet, Google’s parent company, pushed around 88% of their donations to Democrats AND more than 80% of Meta — formerly Facebook — employees contributed to the benefit of Democrats.
