Some “Wheel of Fortune” fans were left wondering if longtime host Pat Sajak has unfulfilled dreams of being a wrestler after Tuesday’s edition of the popular game show.
A contestant on the show named Fred revealed that among his many talents in life, he is a professional wrestler, though he admitted he does it mostly “for the fun” and gets paid “very little” to compete in the sport.
The little tidbit of information seemed to stick with Sajak throughout the show, with the gameshow host referring to Fred as a “brute” after he stacked up win after win.
“Just because he’s a professional wrestler,” Sajak said, before asking the other contestants, “You want me to body slam him for you?”
Fred made it to the bonus round and guessed the puzzle in three attempts for the “Phrase” category — the letters stating: “His mind is wandering.”
Sajak told Fred he was taking home $75,800 and the player seemed to be pretty emotional about that, hugging his father before putting his hands over his head in disbelief.
It was at this moment, as Fred reveled in his accomplishment, that Sajak suddenly rushed up behind him and grabbed him in a wrestling move, twisting Fred’s arm behind his back while grabbing his face and turning his head.
Of course, it was all in jest, and “Wheel of Fortune” fans seemed to enjoy the moment, though one social media user asked if Sajak had “lost” his mind.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:

Wow! Fred is an awesome player. He is entertaining as well. Perfect game. If he won $100,000, that would have been an icing on the cake.

Total domination by a professional wrestler. I have never seen one person solve all of the puzzles before. I booked pro wrestling events at my Masonic Lodge in Bennington, VT. I also booked Steven Brundage and Kris Williams.
