Two years after having committee assignments stripped, MTG is making a comeback

After a 2-year hiatus imposed by Democrats, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is now set to make a grand return to several congressional committees.

Recall that in 2021, Democrats ousted her from all her committee assignments because of past remarks she’d made which were deemed controversial.

“The House of Representatives has voted to strip Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments, following uproar over her past incendiary comments and apparent support of violence against Democrats. Thursday’s vote was 230-199, with 11 Republicans joining with all Democrats to back the resolution,” NPR reported at the time.

Two years later, and with Republicans now in control of the House, she’s finally en route back. In a ruling issued Tuesday, the House GOP Steering Committee assigned Greene to both the House Homeland Security Committee and the House Oversight Committee.

“I’m honored to be selected to serve on what could arguably be the most important committee this Congress, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. We will return the role of the Oversight Committee to investigating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement of the federal government, which is exactly what the American people are fed up with,” Greene said in a statement.

“Joe Biden, be prepared. We are going to uncover every corrupt business dealing, every foreign entanglement, every abuse of power, and every check cut for The Big Guy,” she added.

She said something similar in regard to her Homeland Security assignment:

“Our Southern border is being invaded by millions of illegal aliens, criminals, and potential terrorists. Our People are being murdered by Chinese fentanyl flooding in from the cartels. Our Border Patrol and ICE agents have their hands tied and have been turned into a welcoming committee by the Biden administration,” she said.

“Cyber attacks continue on our nation’s people and businesses along with many more threats to our homeland It’s time for accountability with Republicans in charge,” she added.

There’s only one small catch. The ruling must now be approved by the entire House GOP conference. The good news is that this shouldn’t be an issue for Greene.

“[T]ypically, the conference approves whatever Steering recommends,” CNN’s Melanie Zanona reported Tuesday.

Notice Zanona also mentioned Rep. Paul Gosar. He too was stripped of his committee assignments in 2021, albeit for an entirely different reason.

“The House on Wednesday voted 223-207 to censure Arizona Republican Paul Gosar and remove him from his committee roles for posting an animated video that depicted him killing New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an action he has refused to acknowledge as inappropriate,” Roll Call reported at the time.

Like Greene, Gosar has also scored a seat on the House Oversight Committee, in addition to a seat on the Natural Resources Committee.

The decision by Republicans to empower both controversial lawmakers with committee assignments again provoked massive outrage from the far left.

Cry as they might, there’s nothing they can do about Greene and Gosar’s assignments. Republicans won the House fair and square in the 2022 election, and as the saying goes, elections have consequences …
