‘Uncharted territory’: Trump insists he will remain in presidential race if criminally indicted

Former President Donald Trump may have caused a stir with his Saturday CPAC speech, but it was his response to the press about a possible indictment that left corporate media declaring arrival into “uncharted territory.”

After two impeachments, an FBI raid of his home, ongoing targeted investigations, and the widely panned kangaroo court that was the January 6 Committee, the president is no stranger to being attacked. As they believed politically weaponized Justice Department considers the possibility of an indictment of the onetime commander in chief, Trump not only demonstrated his resolve but highlighted how damaging the left’s behavior is to their own ends.

During questions from the press at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland Saturday, Newsmax’s chief White House correspondent James Rosen asked if the president would continue his campaign for the 2024 Republican nomination if indicted.

“BREAKING NEWS: I asked @realDonaldTrump during his Q/A with reporters @CPAC if he will stay in the race for the @WhiteHouse if he is indicted,” Rosen posted to Twitter. “‘Oh, absolutely. I wouldn’t even think about leaving,’ he said, adding: ‘Probably it will enhance my numbers.'”

Reacting to the pronouncement, Trump-obsessed New York Time’s columnist and author Maggie Haberman wrote, “We are in uncharted territory and anyone who says otherwise is wrong.”

Of course, she didn’t leave it at that as she contributed to a piece for the Times Saturday that argued Trump was using his campaign as part of his defense.

“Several people close to Mr. Trump have said he believes his presidential campaign can be used as a cudgel to hit back against the prosecutors,” she asserted. “In his remarks on Saturday, Mr. Trump repeatedly cast the prosecutors as corrupt and politically motivated, citing no evidence. As he has for years, he cast the investigations not as a result of his own actions, but as an effort to silence the voices of his supporters.”

Notably, as the piece pointed to Trump’s lack of evidence it also failed to address the number of times that witch hunts against the businessman turned political leader had proven to be nothing but. Instead, it went on to further drum up allegations of culpability for the breach of the Capitol on January 6.

Meanwhile, as the frontrunner for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination spoke to attendees at CPAC that included prominent figures from the right like radio host Mark Levin, Reps. Matt Gaetz (FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) along with former 2022 Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, he remained consistent in pointing out that he was fighting on behalf of the American people and declared, “I am your warrior, I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution.”

“For seven years, you and I have been engaged in an epic struggle to rescue our country from the people who hate it and want to absolutely destroy it,” he continued. “The sinister forces trying to kill America have done everything they can to stop me, to silence you, and to turn this nation into a socialist dumping ground for criminals, junkies, Marxist thugs and radicals, and dangerous refugees that no other country wants.”

“They know that we can defeat them, they know that we will defeat them,” Trump stated later, “but they’re not coming after me — they’re coming after you. And I’m just standing in their way. And that’s why I’m here today. That’s why I’m standing before you — because we are going to finish what we started.”
