An “appalling and deeply troubling” incident was captured on surveillance footage featuring a U.S. Postal Service carrier, a four-year-old Jewish boy, and two alleged misdemeanors.
Thursday in the town of Ramapo, New York, just northwest of New York City in Rockland County, a disturbing scene unfolded as a young boy approached a cluster box where a USPS carrier appeared to be delivering mail. However, in the video obtained by The Monsey Scoop, it was neither letters nor parcels that the carrier had to offer, as he instead appeared to forcefully shove the four-year-old to the ground.
In the short clip, the postal worker could be seen with his back facing the cluster box as he appeared to be engaged with something at the driver’s seat of his vehicle while the boy approached. No sooner had the child drawn near than the carrier turned about and lunged toward him, shoving the boy to the ground hard enough to knock the yarmulke off his head.
According to the Scoop, the carrier had been screaming at the children.

Not long after, the Ramapo Police Department detailed in a news release that the 39-year-old USPS employee had been arrested and later released with a future court date after he was charged with two misdemeanors.
“Following a comprehensive investigation, it was determined that a 39-year-old Stony Point man, employed by the United States Postal Service, did intentionally shove a 4-year-old child to the ground while performing his duties. The subject was subsequently located and charged with … Endangering the Welfare of a Child … Attempted Assault in the Third Degree,” detailed the police. “The defendant was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court at a later date.”
Reports of the incident were quickly followed by statements from public officials, among them Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht, who posted to X, “I have viewed the video depicting an incident involving a physical attack on a small child. The content of this video is very disturbing. Ramapo Police have treated this matter with extreme seriousness and have now arrested the suspect. An update will be provided shortly.”
Likewise, New York State Assemblyman Aron Wieder (D) said, “The attack on a 4 year old in Monsey is appalling and deeply troubling, never acceptable under any circumstances. Thank you to Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht and the Ramapo Police Department for their prompt action, with police taking the suspect into custody.”

Additionally, the incident saw both sides of a political race sound off as incumbent state Sen. Bill Weber (R) and challenger Nyack Mayor Joe Rand (D) each addressed the “absolutely shocking and deeply disturbing video” with their own statements of “concern and outrage” that called for prosecution “to the fullest extent of the law.”
I’ve heard from constituents who are deeply alarmed by the assault of a young child in the @TownOfRamapo. I share their concern and outrage. The suspect has been arrested by @Ramapo_PD. He must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!
