Video captured the horrifying moment a docked boat exploded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
One person is dead and five others were injured in the explosion on Monday. The fire grew until it raged out of control and spread to a second vessel according to NBC Miami. Surveillance video caught the explosion, which launched several boaters into the water.

The five people were transported to a local hospital, three with traumatic injuries. The sixth, deceased person was located by divers.
Authorities are unsure what caused the explosion.

Dude didn’t turn on the blower before starting his engines.
Gas fumes are heavier than air and sink into the bilge. All boats with inboard or inboard/outboard engines have a blower that is to be run after fueling to push out the fumes.
Otherwise, you get explosions.

I was driving over the 17th street bridge when the explosion happened and saw a huge cloud of black smoke.

It happens. A fuel leak made fuel vapors in an anclosed space, seems to be the full cabin, and possibly the bilge (engine space). One spark, and… well… for lack of a better word: “KA-BOOM”.

Because the boat is at a gas dock, and the quick, temporary burst of flame, I’m guessing this is a gas fume explosion. It’s rare, but it happens. He probably didn’t run his blowers after fueling and someone either tried to start the boat or created some sort of flame or spark.
