With just under a year and a half before next November’s pivotal presidential election, many voters have already had impressions of the candidates cemented into their minds, largely due to the effectiveness of the media in shaping the narrative and a new poll reveals that the leading contenders will all have to overcome negative perceptions with the public.
In the survey conducted by pollster JL Partners for the Daily Mail, 1,000 likely general election voters were asked about which one word they would use to describe the candidates, President Joe Biden, former President Donald J. Trump, and other Republicans including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and ABC News pundit and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the human torpedo who has been seemingly been deployed to sink the embattled GOP frontrunner.
Respondents’ view of Trump would seem to have been affected by the headlines of the last several months with the criminal charges brought against him by vindictive leftist prosecutors, most recently, Special Counsel Jack Smith’s 37-count indictment related to the mishandling of classified materials.

The term “criminal” jumps out from a word cloud put together by the Daily Mail, also popular are liar, dangerous, a**hole, racist leader, and patriot.
The former president fares much better when only Republican responses are taken into account, with patriot being the top term. Leader, awesome, businessman, strong, amazing, MAGA and smart also are popular terms.

For the deeply popular Democrat incumbent Joe Biden who is seeking another four-year term that would make him 86-years-old by the time he is choppered off of the White House lawn in January 2025, the overwhelming favorite is “OLD,” with a close second being incompetent. Puppet, idiot, criminal, senile, dementia and corrupt are also favorites.
When only Democrat responses are considered, Biden is also seen as old which makes it a really good thing for the president that the DNC has rigged the primary process in his favor.
The responses for DeSantis are a testament to the effectiveness of the media lies about book bans and anti-gay laws as well as the gullibility of the average voter.
“Fascist” and “unsure” are the dominant terms with racist, bigot, terrible, evil, and dangerous all meriting consideration according to the Daily Mail’s word cloud.

As for Christie, he pretty much defines himself by simply showing up, and absent gastric bypass surgery, is going to have a hard time shifting perceptions while it still matters.
In addition to “FAT,” “unknown” and “unsure” are the top responses, possibly due to the glowing media coverage that Christie has received.
Also included in the poll with speculation in some corners that the elderly Biden will be shoved out at some time prior to the election, is the Democratic party’s rising star, California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“Unknown” and “unsure” are the top two results for Newsom, evidence of the short attention span of voters who have already forgotten his authoritarianism on COVID and the simple fact that he has destroyed his state which terrifyingly serves as a model for what his party would like to do to the rest of the country.
With 17 months to go until election day, it’s still anybody’s race with a number of variables that could derail the two frontrunners and open up the competition to others, and in the case of Republicans, the debates are coming up fast.
