Backlash is mounting against a Washington Post columnist over his refusal to even consider any of the evidence against President Joe Biden.
Appearing on comedy club owner Noam Dworman’s podcast late last month, the Post’s Philip Bump threw a fit and left prematurely after being confronted with evidence that the president had profited off his son Hunter’s shady business dealings.
Watch:
“What do you take from the text message to his adult daughter — Hunter’s text message — ‘I have to give 50% of my income to pop,'” Dworman asked Bump in the clip above.
“I have no idea what that means. I don’t. I have no idea what that means,” Bump immediately replied without even thinking about the question.
“It’s, it’s, it’s …,” Dworman tried responding, only to be cut off by Bump.
“I know, it’s circumstantial evidence, and you prefer that to direct evidence,” the Wapo columnist snidely remarked.
“No, what could it mean?” Dworman pressed, trying once more to procure a real answer from the demonstrably pro-Biden columnist.
“I have no idea. I don’t know. I appreciate you having me on,” Bump replied, indicating his desire to leave.
“Has anybody asked her [Hunter’s daughter]?” Dworman asked, trying again to get Bump to start keeping it real.
“I don’t know. I don’t know,” Bump rushed to respond.
“Don’t you think somebody should ask her?” Dworman asked.
“OK, I just said I don’t know and I don’t know what to make of it, so I have nothing else to say about it. What do you want me to say?” Bump replied.
Eventually, Bump got up and left, ending the interview early and inspiring a whirlwind of backlash against him not only for what he said in the clip above, but for what he said throughout the whole hour-long podcast interview.

Throughout the entire interview, Bump reflexively dismissed every point Dworman made about the president and his son. In his mind, there’s not even the possibility that Biden might be corrupt, as noted by legal scholar Jonathan Turley.
“Dworman was asking about the mounting evidence and contradictions in the Biden corruption scandal. Some of us have said that there is evidence of obvious corruption and influence peddling, but more investigation is needed to establish any basis for impeachment or criminal charges involving President Biden,” Turley wrote Friday.
“Bump, however, will have none of it. The Post writer (who demanded investigations of a wide array of Republicans on false stories with little evidence) is vehement that there is nothing to see here . . . and the public just has to take his word for it,” he added.

During several other points in the interview, Bump suggested that Dworman and other dissidents are all misinformed because they don’t automatically believe the media’s narratives, such as the narrative that Biden is squeaky clean.
“I have two issues here. One is Joe Biden’s behavior and one is the issue of the press. The press actually bothers me more than Joe Biden,” Dworman said to him, referring to the media’s sycophantic coverage of the president.
“Because you don’t listen to the press. I’m sitting here and I’m telling you, you’re wrong about these things, and you don’t listen, and you continue to insist upon things that are, you know, parsing of language. And it’s just, it’s this is why I keep saying it’s silly,” Bump replied.
By why should anybody listen to HIM? He himself has a history of sharing “false stories,” according to Turley. Worse, he’s never apologized or issued a correction.
During another point in the interview, Dworman asked whether there’s anything they “can talk about” that Bump won’t automatically shut down.
After all, “half the country believes this stuff,” he added.
“I know, because half the country doesn’t actually dig into the issues,” Bump replied, again accusing his dissidents of being ignorant.
Said dissidents were not pleased by his smug dismissal of anything they have to say:
“There are no words I can use that would do justice to what this video shows about Bump and corporate media employees generally. He’s a deeply dishonest, arrogant, weaselly, snide, condescending asshole, yet passionately devoted to the Dem Party and Biden — ie, corporate media,” Pulitzer Prize-winning dissident journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted.

That Philip Bump appearance is the perfect summation of modern day journalism. Dismissive, arrogant, partisan, and completely and utterly incurious.

Note: Hunter confessing that he gives half his money to his father is direct evidence of corrupt dealings, not circumstantial. It doesn’t get more direct than a confession.

I thought reporters are supposed to be impartial and search for the truth? Sadly, not so in today’s America. From my perspective, what counts for reporters (or their network) is to be aligned with their political party.

Bump dodged, interrupted, contradicted, weaved, whined, diverted, pivoted, feigned offense, gave offense, threated to walk out, promised to walk out, walked out.
In short, tried everything except ANSWER.— PatriciaFleming (@Patrici18620931) September 2, 2023
