Watch: Christmas Day carjacking of hapless female Washington State Patrol officer

A viral video captured on Christmas Day has been labeled a “DEI embarrassment” as it showcased the relative ease with which a man carjacked a state trooper.

“She isn’t just a female police officer. She’s a lieutenant.”

As gatherings of loved ones were celebrating the holiday with church services, pageants and gift exchanges, a man in Seattle, Washington, instead became the feature of a video, simultaneously ruining a woman’s Christmas and sullying her law enforcement agency’s reputation.

Video obtained by TMZ showed the man was walking across Interstate 5 in Seattle before he began interacting with the unmarked patrol car of a lieutenant with the Washington State Patrol. After approaching the vehicle, the man, later alleged to be Alexander Eugene Smith, could be seen opening the door. It was then that the lieutenant stood to address him, only to be readily forced to the ground as her vehicle was taken.

What resulted was a pursuit of the stolen vehicle that WSP detailed had been brought to a conclusion when troopers struck the SUV, bringing it to a stop after the suspect had looped back around on the highway. Law enforcement then deployed a Taser on the suspect, who was said to have resisted arrest.

Records indicated that investigations had been opened on Smith for alleged robbery, attempt to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault and a DUI.

Thursday’s incident comes as the WSP is set to host a memorial service for Trooper Tara-Marysa Guting who tragically lost her life Dec. 19 when she was struck by a vehicle in Tacoma while investigating a two-vehicle collision.

KING 5’s Jim Nelson detailed that on top of the line of duty death, there have been “at least a half a dozen incidents in which state patrol vehicles were hit.”

WSP spokesperson Trooper Rick Johnson told the outlet of the unnamed lieutenant, “She’s fine. I actually spoke with her. She’s gonna be just fine. You know … it’s not an ordinary situation. Let’s put it that way.”

Johnson had also indicated to TMZ that the lieutenant was not expected to be reprimanded over the incident.

On top of the leniency expected to be granted to the law enforcement official related to the carjacking that could have ended much worse than it had, reactions on social media were fueled by the pressing need to see meritocracy restored in all institutions.

While the specifics around the hiring and promotion of the lieutenant in question remained unknown, the way in which DEI had sullied the reputations of all practicing fields had many quickly concluding that the carjacking wouldn’t have taken place if common sense were being applied in hiring those responsible for protecting the public and preserving the peace.
