‘We sold you out’: 147 Republicans join Dems to defy liberty-loving Americans, yet again

The GOP-led House of Representatives delivered coal in Americans’ stockings as they passed a massive $886 BILLION defense bill before leaving for the holiday break.

Democrats successfully rammed through the $886 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Thursday and Republicans helped them do it, despite many in the GOP openly opposing the sprawling bill that passed in a 310 to 118 vote, with 147 ‘yes’ votes from Republicans.

Only 45 Democrats and 73 Republicans had the backbone to vote no on the bill which the Senate passed on Wednesday in a 87-13 vote. It now heads to President Joe Biden’s desk for a signature.

House and Senate negotiators released the compromise version of the NDAA last week, stripping out a ban on the Defense Department’s abortion policy and a prohibition on Pentagon funding for gender-affirming care, along with other contentious provisions.

“House and Senate negotiators released the compromise version of the NDAA last week, stripping out a ban on the Defense Department’s abortion policy and a prohibition on Pentagon funding for gender-affirming care, along with other contentious provisions,” The Hill reported. “Conservative lawmakers also opposed the inclusion in the NDAA of an extension of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) through April 19.”

“We sold you out,” announced Rep. Tim Burchett in a post on X.

He explained in a video message that he was headed to Congress to vote against the “horrendous piece of legislation” and declaring that “the uniparty is real.”

The controversial Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) ended up being included even though Speaker Mike Johnson seemed to flip-flop on including it.

“Surveillance of U.S. citizens, trampling on our most precious constitutional freedoms in this country with no reforms,” Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) said. “The NDAA is a bad bill, attaching it to FISA makes it that much worse. Every Republican should vote against it.”

“America – make sure you let your voices be heard this morning… no member of Congress, D or R, should be rubberstamping a continuation of the surveillance apparatus that has enabled abusive spying,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) wrote on X ahead of the vote.

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said the bill was “insufficient” in dealing with the Pentagon which has “veered substantially left.”

“With this NDAA conference report, you almost feel like a parent who’s sent their child off to summer camp and they come back like a monster,” Gaetz said.

“I think that’s a glaring statement that more Democrats voted for it. That’s exactly right. That’s a big problem,” Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., told DailyMail.com.

Other reactions poured in on social media.
