Elected officials were counted among those holding fast to protesters’ obstruction of federal law enforcement, declaring, “We’ll do it every single time.”
A popular refrain from leftists amid the torrent of lawfare against President Donald Trump had been to remind that “no one is above the law.” Now, a day after protesters seeking to foil enforcement operations had once again clashed with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, a press conference of professional agitators affirmed their radical open border view that illegal aliens be protected from deportation — even by extreme means.
Among those taking to the microphone a day after scores of protesters had reportedly blocked U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from leaving a federally-owned parking garage as part of an operation in New York City, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams (D) asserted, “We do not apologize for standing up.”
“We’ll do it every single time,” he added with support of the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC).
“We will not apologize for stepping up to protect our neighbors…the actions we witnessed yesterday did not it keep NYers safe…wr will not apologize for being a sanctuary city,” says @JumaaneWilliams pic.twitter.com/E4ORJh8iGP

A member of NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s (D) transition team as part of the Committee on Immigrant Justice, NYIC CEO Murad Awawdeh had said at the press conference, “Our neighbors, New Yorkers of every stripe, mobilized, took time out of their day to come here and defend their neighbors to make sure that people were not disappeared, that families were not separated, and stood here for hours.”
Likewise, as police indicated “multiple individuals were taken into custody” at the protest outside the U.S. General Services Administration building and the New York Post reported charges had been brought against 18 people, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander (D) had stated, “I really do want to ask the NYPD to remember who you’re sworn to protect and serve, and it’s the people of New York City.”
“And yesterday, the people who were protecting and serving New Yorkers were the protesters who showed up,” said the politician who’d been an ally of Mamdani since his own dead on arrival bid to head City Hall had fizzled out.
Regarding Saturday’s clash in Gotham, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch allegedly chided federal immigration enforcement officers for not warning the police about their activities ahead of time. Reacting to that stance, Lander had posted on X, “While I’m glad Comm. Tisch let Ricky Patel (Special Agent in Charge at HSI) know that she’s not happy with their raids, I’m disturbed by footage of NYPD officers clearing the way for ICE vehicles. It’s a violation of our sanctuary city law for the NYPD to facilitate deportations.”

Hannah Stouts, an organizer with Hands Off NYC, a group reported by journalist Savanah Hernandez to be behind training activists to help illegal aliens avoid federal agents, had made clear there were no plans for radicals to cease obstructing law enforcement, “Every time federal officers come into our communities with the intention of conducting lawless raids, of terrorizing our communities, they will be met with non-violent community resistance.”
