Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Democrat, sparked considerable confusion on social media with her latest campaign ad.
Flanagan is running against her Republican opponent, Michelle Tafoya, for a U.S. Senate seat, but her recent video is turning heads for all the wrong reasons. While she tried to call out Tafoya for saying she would “protect” the Trump administration’s SNAP cuts, Flanagan’s platform ended up being a backseat issue entirely.
Watch:
Michele Tafoya said she’ll “protect” Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill in the Senate.
I’m going to fight to restore the cuts to Medicaid and SNAP – the same programs that saved my life as a kid. pic.twitter.com/FIDB5v8PH0

“I’m running to serve you, and not Donald Trump,” she said, pointing to a headline about benefit cuts under the president. “Since last July, 1.2 million children have lost SNAP benefits. When I was growing up, my single mom worked hard, but she couldn’t always make ends meet without a little help. SNAP, which we called food stamps, kept food on the table and in my belly.”
“But now the Trump administration is gutting programs like SNAP and Medicaid to cut taxes for billionaires and corporations who don’t need them,” she continued. “My MAGA opponent has said she’ll protect those devastating cuts in the Big, Ugly Bill. But in the Senate, I’m going to fight to restore the cuts to Medicaid and SNAP because I’m running to serve you, and not Donald Trump.”
X users had a lot to say about the ad, namely about Flannagan’s interesting outfit choice:
She’s wearing the same outfit that a ventriloquist would use to dress up their puppet. https://t.co/8oPLXZlCAo

Dude. Look at this outfit.
Tafoya should pay to run this outside of MSP. I guarantee none of them have encountered a human like this. https://t.co/H3Alb1CRot— Josh Holmes (@HolmesJosh) October 2, 2026
You keep thinking to yourself surely she’ll acknowledge the outfit. Like this has to be a bit.
Nope lol https://t.co/Jdv53KArWI

Didn’t anyone tell her to fix her collar? Or anything else?
She looks like a professor at a third tier liberal arts college whose dissertation was on indigenous Ecuadorian transgender mime. https://t.co/mP5a2fzyBV

It takes balls to stand in a state that’s leading the league in Medicaid fraud and say “I’ll help there be more of it” I’ll give you that.
