A Florida Democrat was ridiculed for drafting a bill to remove the Statue of Liberty in a petulant response to Republicans’ “bigoted” immigration law.
Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., drew all the wrong kind of attention on social media as he was called out for the “ridiculous” stunt. While knocking the House GOP’s Secure the Border Act, Frost proposed a mock bill to remove the Statue of Liberty during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing.
“My colleagues from the other side of the aisle, let’s be honest with immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering them,” he said.
“Don’t welcome immigrants if you plan to reject them. If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you,” the freshman Democrat added, holding up a draft of the bill.

“It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here,” Frost continued.
“This is who you are, removing the fabric of America. So, I want to know which Republican, who supports and voted for H.R.2, will introduce this bill,” he said. “If you’re gonna support H.R.2 and these bigoted measures, the least you can do is not be a d**n liar.”
His performance earned him deserved mockery on social media.
“There’s only one party in this country that wants to tear down statues, and it’s not Republicans,” wrote RealClearInvestigations senior writer Mark Hemingway.
“The country’s going to hell because people keep electing morons like this,” wrote Twitchy’s Doug Powers.
“Then I guess New York and Chicago should stop complaining then!” added Maryland State Senator Justin Ready.

He should sponsor a family, and illegal aliens should be sent to his district. It’s the compassionate thing to do. @GovAbbott

This simple-minded, but hateful fool Frost, doesn’t seem to know that the words to the socialist activist Emma Lazeroth’s poem never represented US official policy, nor even that of the general public’s opinion. It’s a policy never even mentioned in our founding documents.

What a genius. The statue sits on Ellis Island, the most important port of entry for LEGAL immigration for decades.
