Whistleblower alleges former DOGE employee bragged about stealing Americans’ private information

A whistleblower has reportedly alleged that a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) engineer working in the Social Security Administration (SSA) bragged about sharing info from the agency’s databases with his private employer.

The SSA Inspector General is investigating the matter, according to the Washington Post.

The whistleblower complaint specifically says that the DOGE engineer bragged about having databases containing the confidential information of U.S. citizens stored on at least one thumb drive.

“The databases, called ‘Numident’ and the ‘Master Death File,’ include records for more than 500 million living and dead Americans, including Social Security numbers, places and dates of birth, citizenship, race and ethnicity, and parents’ names,” the Post claims.

The whistleblower complaint reportedly says that the DOGE engineer opened up to his colleagues about his intentions because he needed help transferring data from the thumb drive “to his personal computer so that he could ‘sanitize’ the data before using it at [the company.]”

“The engineer told colleagues that once he had removed personal details from the data, he wanted to upload it into the company’s systems,” according to the Post.

He also bragged about expecting to receive a presidential pardon if he were ever busted for exploiting the data.

The Trump administration has claimed the Post’s reporting is bull.

“When The Post contacted the agency and the company in January, both said they had not heard of the complaint,” the Post admitted in its report. “Both said they subsequently looked into the allegations and did not find evidence to confirm the claims.”

The unnamed company even conducted a “thorough” two-day internal investigation and ultimately concluded that no data was ever uploaded into its system.

Meanwhile, SSA spokesperson Barton Mackey said in a statement that “the allegation by a singular anonymous source has been found to be false based on evidence and investigations by all involved.”

The DOGE engineer has also pleaded innocent, with his lawyer denying any and all wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Democrats have predictably bought into the Post’s reporting hook, line, and sinker.

“Not only has an ex-DOGE bro been accused of running around with the Social Security information of every American on a flash drive, he also may have the ability to edit and manipulate data at the Social Security Administration at will,” Rep. Robert Garcia complained.

“This is dangerous and outrageous, and Oversight Committee Democrats will fight for transparency and accountability,” he added.

Garcia is the ranking member of the GOP-controlled House Oversight Committee.

This all comes months after the SSA’s former chief data officer, Charles Borger, resigned days after filing a whistleblower complaint of his own, alleging that DOGE was placing the confidential information of millions of Americans at risk.

“Due to my concerns regarding SSA’s questionable and potentially unlawful data management practices, and the inability to exercise my statutory duties as CDO, I believe my position is untenable and that this constitutes an intolerable working environment for a Chief Executive tasked with specific responsibilities and accountability,” he wrote in a resignation letter, as reported by Politico.

He explained in more detail that he’d become aware of “several projects and incidents which may constitute violations of federal statutes or regulations.”

He added that DOGE’s leadership team had “created a culture of panic and dread” when it came to talking about transparency and accountability.

“As a result of these events, I am put in the intolerable situation of not having visibility or oversight into activities that potentially violate statutes and regulations, which I, as the CDO, may legally or otherwise be held accountable for should I continue in this position,” he continued. “I cannot verify that agency data is being used in accordance with legal agreements or in compliance with federal requirements.”
