Whoopi drops a paycheck bombshell that has fans doing the math

Actress Whoopi Goldberg sat down with Keke Palmer and revealed her favorite thing about co-hosting The View.

While the show has come under fire repeatedly by conservatives and Republicans, it is apparently bringing in enough money to provide Goldberg with an unimaginable check. She joined Baby, This Is Keke Palmer to brag about her earnings.

“I mean, it’s so interesting seeing you on The View and you’re constantly- what made you even want to get on that show?” Palmer asked.

“I needed a job,” Goldberg replied frankly. “Barbara [Walters] offered me a job. She said, ‘We just lost one of the people on the show. Would you consider coming over?’ And I had been doing a radio show.  And I said, ‘Absolutely. Yeah.’ And so she brought me over and it’s like I’ve been Crazy Glued to that chair.”

“Oh my gosh. What do you love about it?” Palmer pressed.

“I love the check,” Goldberg admitted, causing the host to crack up.

“I can only imagine what that check is,” Palmer chuckled.

“No, no, you can’t, trust me. You can’t, you would be shocked,” the guest said, adding, “As soon as they showed you that check, you’d be like, ‘What the!?’”

She also expressed humility for her privileged position in life.

“A lot of people don’t have jobs, so I’m lucky. I like to talk, I like talking about stuff, I like people. And I’m okay with what I think I believe. I don’t mind doing that. Even when it irritates people? That’s what the show is. It’s not irritation, necessarily, but it is called The View,” she explained.

While she did not disclose an exact number, speculation on social media indicates that she could be making somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-figures for her participation in the show.

“The last story I did on The View, I was told by three people familiar with her contract that Whoopi was being paid $6 million a year. That is obviously a lot of money to a lot of people, but she’s talking about it as if she’s making Oprah money. Whoopi made much, much, much more from films like The Lion King, which came out 32 years ago and required very little work compared with The View,” journalist Yashar Ali wrote.
