Setting sights on shifting the Empire State to a socialist slum, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) added one of New York City’s mayor-elect’s costliest “free” programs to her own campaign.

Throughout his campaign and since his Election Day victory, New York City Mayor Elect Zohran Mamdani (D) has treated the bank accounts of Big Apple businesses and taxpayers as ripe for the picking. Aiming to find similar success for her own contested re-election by promising handouts, Hochul joined Mamdani at the helm of the gravy train with her own pitch for “universal” childcare.
Joining billionaire host John Catsimatidis on 77 WABC’s “Cats Roundtable,” the governor talked up Mamdani and his proposals while expressing her own favor for working toward a statewide, taxpayer-funded childcare program.
“[Mamdani] and I have had many meetings — individually and with our staff — to find a path forward, something reasonable that we can get started on: universal childcare,” she said. “Employers in New York are really going to benefit when their own employees don’t have to stress on who’s taking care of their children. I think that’s going to give real competitive advantages to our businesses as well.”
“I’m excited about that,” expressed Hochul, who voiced similar enthusiasm for the incoming city executive, deemed by many to be an Islamunist (Islamist communist). “I think [Mamdani] is going to surprise a lot of people.”
“Everybody — let’s give him a chance. No one wants to root against New York City,” insisted the governor.
Similar to Hochul’s own avoidance of the key concern, Mamdani’s favor for socialist programs did not include an actual explanation of how he intended to pay for such endeavors, like government-run grocery stores and taxpayer-subsidized public transportation, if implemented. Taxpayer-funded childcare in New York City alone would cost $6 billion based on the mayor-elect’s proposal, with top earners and corporations that actually stick around covering the bulk of it as the government picks their pockets, according to the New York Post.
That reality didn’t stop the governor seeking re-election from tacking the proposal onto her own campaign.
Throughout the interview, Hochul harped on affordability, a key talking point of Democrats spinning a narrative against President Donald Trump’s own economic agenda. While she touted tax credits in the coming year, her Trump-endorsed opponent, Republican gubernatorial candidate Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman was cited by the Post as saying, “Under Kathy Hochul, New York has become the most unaffordable state in the nation, and her tax hikes will only deepen the financial pain families face when putting food on the table and clothes on their children.”
“Universal child care should be funded by reprioritizing the billions wasted in New York’s budget, including the billions spent on illegal immigrants,” added Blakeman in contrast with Democrat assemblymen who support the proposal with claims it would benefit the state’s economy.
“New York having universal child care would provide an amazing boost to our economy as well as families,” said Bronx Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, a co-sponsor of a bill toward that end. “The question is, how do we make it happen? The devil is in the details.”
On that same note, reactions to Hochul’s support for the socialist program amid increasing reports of fraud in states across the country begged the question, “What could possibly go wrong?”

It’s not about who pays. It’s about who gets paid.
