As investigations into the FBI continue to support concerns of the weaponization of the Justice Department against conservative-minded Americans, voices from the left have yet again taken to pearl-clutching over a former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice’s comment that the citizenry has grown too lazy for “revolution.”
Michael Gableman had served on the state Supreme Court in Wisconsin until 2018 and had been hired by the state assembly speaker Robin Vos to investigate potential election fraud in the 2020 presidential election until he was fired in August, seemingly for endorsing her primary challenger.
On Sept. 9, he was invited to speak at a dinner for the Republican Party of Outagamie County of which progressive reporter Lauren Windsor released an audio recording of Monday.
“For the first time in my life I am beginning to wonder if America’s best days are behind us,” Gableman can be heard saying during remarks before adding, “I don’t know, but I’ll tell you what, our comfort, our comfort is holding us back from taking the action that is necessary.”

“The greatest challenge of our poor in this country is not lack of food, it’s obesity,” he went on to add. “It’s a beautiful world. But it’s that very comfort that is keeping us from what our founders knew to be the only way to keep an honest government, which is revolution.”
The former justice didn’t stop there as he went on to paraphrase the third president, “Thomas Jefferson said that the tree of liberty must be watered by the blood of revolution every generation.”
Outrage from Democrats called for the FBI to put a stop to Gableman for exercising his free speech as well as assertions from some that the other side has guns too.
Isn’t there anything that can be done to stop this? Or is the FBI just going to watch as they make plans and it unfolds?

They’re relying on their guns and making the assumption that the other side doesn’t have guns, too. Clearly they didn’t think this through.

Their language fell right in line with the next remarks from Gableman who reminded that President Joe Biden himself had recently appeared to threaten anybody who might challenge government overreach while lamenting the public’s lack of motivation to do anything.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen. And our president has gone out of his way to say, ‘Don’t even think about a revolution. We’ve got F-14s and you don’t.’ Who talks like that?” Gableman asked.
Prior to his dark Independence Hall address, Biden had told a gathering in Pennsylvania, “For those brave right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against the country, you need an F-15. You need something more than a gun.”

Of course, none of the respondents could speak to whether Gableman was actually calling for a violent revolt against the government as the context of Jefferson’s original remarks was ignored for its historical significance.
He had been writing to John Adams’s son-in-law William Stephens Smith in 1787 following the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and had framed his argument by stating, “We have had 13. states independant 11. years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”
Instead, concerns over the election, which Gableman had spent $1 million of the state’s taxpayer money to investigate finding a suspicious “100 percent voting [rate] in many nursing homes,” where “Several of these nursing home residents that had voted had been previously declared incompetent” were brushed aside as wild conspiracy while focus remained to further the narrative that support of the Constitution and the rule of law is somehow violent extremism.
