‘Woke’ rock band loses chunk of fans, cites unity in pulling out of patriotic festival

Shinedown pulled out of the Rock The Country Festival, citing their band’s mission to “unite.”

On Friday, the band took to social media to announce their decision to withdraw from the patriotic festival, which bills itself as “a celebration of community, tradition, and the spirit that’s carried America through 250 years.”

Look:

“Shinedown is everyone’s band. We feel that we have been given a platform to bring all people together through the power of music and song,” a statement from the group reads. “We have one BOSS, and it is everyone in the audience. Our band’s purpose is to unite, not divide. With that in mind, we have made the decision that we will not be playing the Rock The Country Festival.”

“We know that this decision will create differences of opinion. But we do not want to participate in something we believe will create further division. And to our fans, thank you for supporting and believing in us.”

And “create differences of opinion,” it did, as X artists weighed in on the choice:
