Yes, Jasmine Crockett really did say that the point of law enforcement ISN’T to prevent crime!

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, is receiving backlash for her recent podcast comments about the point of policing.

During a recent episode of the “Grounded” podcast, which aired last Wednesday, Crockett sought to clear the air on what she perceived as the true purpose of law enforcement.

Watch:

“I want to be clear that, like, law enforcement isn’t to prevent crime. Law enforcement solves crime, OK? That is what they are supposed to do. They are supposed to solve crimes, not necessarily prevent them from happening per se,” the lawmaker said.

The statement came as she was discussing how President Donald Trump has utilized the police to clean up crime in the nation’s capital.

“I think it has been terrible,” she said of the president deploying the National Guard. “How is it that we have a government that is hostile towards its people? ‘Cause that’s what it is. Like, I mean, we are in the midst of a hostile government takeover, and it is our government that is like, bringing the hostility.”

Officer Deon Joseph would beg to differ. He released a video on X contesting Crockett’s statements:

“With all the people dying in Chicago last week, 50 people shot, 8 people dead. With mass shootings happening, it disheartens me for her to say that,” the officer said. “I’m not going to say anything disparaging about her. I know I can get a lot of likes and a lot of clicks and a lot of shares, calling her all kind of names. I’m not gonna do that, but I’m going to respectfully challenge her opinion.”

“As a police officer, I did not sign up to be an after-the-fact entity in the lives of the people I serve,” he continued. “I did not sign up for that. I did sign up to prevent people from dying.”

Others also had plenty to say:
