‘ABC News is f*cking disgusting’: Reporter’s take on man getting time served after killing 84yo draws ire

Just when you think that mainstream media coverage couldn’t get any lower, along comes another breathtaking news clip.

In January 2021, 84-year-old Thai man Vicha Ratanapakdee was taking his normal walk in San Francisco when Antoine Watson was caught on video rushing him and knocking him over. Ratanapakdee never regained consciousness following the attack and passed away from his injuries two days later. On Thursday, Watson was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and assault, but not guilty of murder. The jury will return on January 26 to hear the aggravating factors arguments, and then a sentencing hearing will be scheduled.

Despite claims from the family of the victim that Ratanapakdee was attacked due to his race, hate crime charges were not filed against Watson, and no racial motivations were brought up during the trial.

ABC News coverage of the verdict included a snippet from legal analyst Steve Clark, who argued that Watson may end up released on time served. This information was described as “very good news” for the mother of the criminal.

Watch:

San Francisco Public Defender Mano Raju, whose office defended the man, claims that Watson is “fully remorseful for his mistake.”

“While this death was a terrible tragedy and has garnered a lot of press attention, the importance of our legal system is that it gives us a chance to look at the facts in a balanced way,” Raju said in a statement.

The segment was ripped by X users who were shocked and appalled to hear the “sympathetic” take from a mainstream media outlet:
