Abortion access for unaccompanied migrant youth ensured by Biden admin at US taxpayer expense

The Biden administration released guidance Thursday ensuring abortions for illegal migrant youth at the expense of American taxpayers, even if it means transferring them across state lines, allowing “predators to continue victimizing women and children.”

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement released a memo reiterating that all unaccompanied minors fall under its jurisdiction, confirming that “staff and care providers must not prevent [unaccompanied child] from accessing legal abortion- related services,” even if that means transferring them to locations out of state to avoid abortion restrictions.

“The Biden administration will stop at nothing to push its radical pro-abortion agenda, even taking unaccompanied young girls who are separated from their family from state to state to be exploited by the profit-driven abortion industry,” SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.

“More than a dozen states including the border state of Texas have laws in place to protect unborn children and the well-being of women and girls. The Biden administration’s obsession with abortion is on display in this guidance which prioritizes placing all unaccompanied pregnant teens in radical abortion states — whether they want an abortion or not.”

The memo repeatedly reiterates its stance that pregnant youth must be housed in states with abortion access.

“This may involve transporting a minor to a state in which abortion is lawful and available, if the minor is currently in a state in which abortion is not lawful or available,” the memo reads. “This Field Guidance provides instructions on the intake and initial placement of pregnant UC and UC who have experienced sexual violence, as well as the transfer of pregnant UC, including UC seeking an abortion. The guidance applies to … all ORR-funded facilities, including Emergency Intake Sites and Influx Care Facilities.”

If a 17-year-old illegal immigrant wants an abortion all they need to do is ask for a transfer and American taxpayers will foot the bill for transportation, housing, the procedure and recovery, all while skirting state laws preventing such services.

“ORR Intakes Team must prioritize placement of pregnant UC and UC who are victims of sexual- based crimes in states without abortion bans and with broad access to reproductive health care for minors,” the memo states. “When bed space in those states is limited, the ORR Intakes Team must use their professional discretion and judgment and available information, to place UC in the least restrictive placement with available bed space, prioritizing facilities that are licensed to care for pregnant UC.”

Abortion activists support the updated guidance, saying it ensures migrants will have equal access to medical care.

“We applaud ORR’s decision to place pregnant unaccompanied immigrant youth in states where they can access the full range of health care they may need, including abortion,” Brigitte Amiri, deputy director of the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, wrote in a statement. “The abortion bans in places like Texas not only prohibit access to abortion, but also to some miscarriage care.

“While unaccompanied immigrant youth should not be detained in the first place, this guidance will play a critical role in ensuring health care access for them, many of whom come to the United States fleeing violent circumstances, including sexual assault.”

But abortion opponents feel President Joe Biden is once again trying to skirt state laws and the overturning of Roe v Wade.

“When an abortion is sought, there are no gestational limits, not even on late-term abortions — part of the Democrats’ larger agenda of imposing abortion on demand nationwide, up until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers,” Dannenfelser said.

The national legislative advisor for the pro-life advocacy organization Human Coalition Action said Biden’s policy allows “predators to continue victimizing women and children and aims to conduct abortions on their minor victims.”

“What kind of message does this send to the rest of the world that we prioritize abortions instead of protection for immigrants?” Chelsey Youman asked. “These children need compassion, quality medical care, and support — but instead we’re offering abortion — paid for by taxpayers. The United States has the power to end human trafficking and provide real solutions to hurting communities along the border, instead the administration chooses neglect. Vulnerable immigrant populations deserve better.”

“Advocates for abortion rights say the new policy guidance complies with court orders that reined in efforts to deny the procedure to migrant children during the administration of former President Donald Trump,” the Associated Press reported. “Government officials and contractors who have religious objections to abortion aren’t required to assist in providing access under the updated policy, but they must notify authorities of any pregnant migrant youths.”
