Georgia gubernatorial hopeful Democrat Stacey Abrams came very close to saying the quiet part out loud during a discussion about inflation on MSNBC.
When asked on Tuesday what she, as governor, would be able to do to “alleviate the concern” of families who are struggling in the face of rising prices, naturally, Abrams tied inflation and abortion together, saying that “having children is why” people are so obsessed with price increases.
“Let’s be clear, having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas, it’s why you’re worried about how much food cost,” Abrams claimed as if single and child-less people are not feeling the same squeeze and those with children.
“For women, this is not a reductive issue. You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child,” she explained further. “And so these- it’s important for us to have both and conversations, we don’t have the luxury of reducing it or separating them out.”
She went on to list a couple of the things a governor can do, without pledging to do any of them and then refocused on abortion.
For Twitter, Abrams’ words were shocking:

If there are no children, think about how much money can be saved just on the cost of facemasks… pic.twitter.com/lxRnf2qkQj

She should definitely keep talking

@staceyabrams I choose not to have children because I’m an unmarried woman and these prices are still a major issue for me…abortion isn’t a worry, but the fact that I spend over $100/week at the grocery store is!

I’m childless AND worried about the price of gas/food.
Checkmate, Stacey.
