Kevin McCarthy vows no ‘blank check’ for Ukraine if GOP retakes House

Whether it be ignoring the crisis at the southern border or seeking new ways to undermine the Constitution, progressive government officials have continued to show that the strength and security of the United States of America are not their top priority.

This was further evidenced when House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) signaled the direction he would be taking in the ongoing funding of Ukraine should the GOP gain control of at least the lower chamber, stating, “it can’t be a blank check.”

The remark came during a discussion with Punchbowl News when the congressman indicated that come January, “I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine.”

After nine months of surrendering logic and American sovereignty to the whims of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where anything short of absolute fealty was deemed pro-Putin Russian propaganda, The Washington Post embraced the biased coverage as senior political reporter Aaron Blake framed McCarthy’s statement as an admission.

“In March, 9% of GOP leaners said we were spending too much on Ukraine. In May: 17%,” he tweeted, “Last month: 32%,” and, “The signs are there that a GOP majority might move to restrict/withhold aid. Now McCarthy is admitting as much.”

Blake’s numbers came from a Pew Research Center poll that showed a similar sentiment trend overall with seven, 12 and 20 percent of Americans saying too much money was being spent on Ukraine in March, May, and September respectively.

Rather than admit that after botching the withdrawal from Afghanistan, President Joe Biden had dragged the United States into another war without definable goals, only this time hamstrung by the reality that any decisive action would be treated as an escalation, leftists demonized the suggestion that the federal government might not be acting in the best interest of the American people.

“I don’t know that I can say I was surprised,” outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said while speaking at the Harvard Institute of Politics, “but I think it’s really disgraceful that Minority Leader McCarthy suggested that if the Republicans get the majority back that we will not continue to provide support for the Ukrainians.”

Of course, McCarthy didn’t say there would be no support, but instead that Ukraine would not be privy to whatever dollar amount was asked for. Speaking on the behalf of fiscally concerned Americans, the California lawmaker said, “They just won’t do it…It’s not a free blank check.”

“And then there’s the things [the Biden administration] is not doing domestically,” he added addressing the misplaced priorities. “Not doing the border, and people begin to weigh that. Ukraine is important, but at the same time, it can’t be the only thing they do, and it can’t be a blank check.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald drew attention to the meltdown from swamp creatures as he shared a tweet from another Post reporter, Paul Kane, who said, “Way too much focus on McCarthy talk about debt limit with [Jake Sherman] – easily most important news so far is McCarthy announcing opposition to more military aid to Ukraine. This is major geo-political earthquake if he sticks to this position. He might cave, who knows.”

“DC mavens are having a nervous breakdown this morning cause Kevin McCarthy hinted a GOP House might be less willing to endlessly fund a proxy war in Ukraine,” Greenwald wrote. “Someone tell me: how is this war benefitting Americans? It’s not: just a tiny sliver of elites.”

Naturally, Cheney sold the endless funding of Ukraine as the progressives had, “the front line in the battle for freedom. And the world, not just America, has an obligation to make sure that Ukraine prevails.”

As the left preoccupied itself with the borders of Ukraine, others joined in defense of emptying American coffers as the only acceptable measure of opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
