Activist physically blocks sergeant at arms from taking mic over new bill criminalizing drag shows for kids

As transgender Loren Perkins spoke at the Texas state capitol on Thursday, an LGBTQ activist blocked the Senate sergeant-at-arms from taking the microphone when Perkins started comparing lawmakers to Nazis for moving to criminalize drag shows for children.

A viral TikTok video shows the testimony of Perkins and the altercation between the militant activist and the sergeant-at-arms, Austin Osborn. The two-minute speech has been viewed over 445 million times, according to the Daily Mail.

As Osborn reached for Perkins’ microphone, the activist rushed in front of him to prevent him from interrupting the transgender’s offensive railing before finishing. There was a physical altercation as the activist and Osborn scuffled for control of the mic.

“By manipulating the words of an ancient text and shoehorning it into legislation aimed at an at-risk minority population, you liken yourself to another group that gained popularity in Germany in the 1930s,” Perkins raged. “When a small man with a smaller mustache stood before crowds and proclaimed himself superior to others – I see you here doing the same.”

Perkins was railing against Senate Bill 1601 and Senate Bill 12. The transgender’s voice steadily rose while attacking the lawmakers advocating for restrictions against drag performances to protect children.

“By hiding your bigotry behind children like cowards, you will find yourself on the wrong side of history,” Perkins commented.

Then, Perkins threw the Nazi card, claiming that Texas lawmakers were anti-gay just as Hitler was.

“Some of the first imprisoned under the Nazi Party rule were homosexual and transgender people,” Perkins proclaimed. “Likely the first woman to undergo a successful gender reassignment surgery was killed in that same prison.”

“When those prison camps were freed by the allies we were the ones who were still kept in prison for our so-called crimes – for loving who we love and living our truth. We can see through this veneer legislation and access the intended target – the continued marginalization and othering of the LGBTQIA+ community,” the transgender accused.

Perkins’ raised voice ran over the time limit by about 40 seconds as the buzzer sounded.

“Rhetoric intended to strike fear into the hearts of the people and the state. I will not sit here and debate your fascist ideology… of intolerance deserve no such stage on a public forum,” Perkins declared.

A female speaker politely asked Perkins to stop as Osborn slowly approached the transgender from behind.

“Thank you for your testimony,” the speaker told Perkins.

Before Osborn could reach the mic, an activist jumped in front of him and put their hands in the air to block him from reaching Perkins. The sergeant-at-arms can be seen pulling on the activist and tussling with the person as Perkins finished the tirade.

“The bill is two seconds away from the outdated discriminatory three articles of laws of the 20th century and I will not stand for it. We will not stand for it,” Perkins shouted. “We may not win today and we may not win tomorrow, but we will persist as we always have the fight of your oppression.”

A female senate employee also approached Perkins from behind and tried unsuccessfully to end the speech as activists blocked her.

Perkins’ microphone was muted as the transgender yelled, “If you wish to eradicate transgenderism from the public light as members of your party have said… you can pry that from my cold dead hands.”

The transgender’s testimony was one of several volatile ones against the Republican-led bills.

Drag queen Brigitte Bandit, claiming to have been born a woman, spoke out against the bill in support of drag performances for children.

“None of us want to have children at our drag shows at the gay bar at 11 pm on a Friday night,” Bandit asserted. “But we do want to continue our events like drag story times that are intentionally modified to be appropriate for children.”

“Why should I be able to continue the same kinds of events with similar content and costumes, but not my male counterparts?” the confused transgender asked.

There was no vote for the bills on Thursday but public testimony did take place.
