Actor Jonathan Majors arrested in NYC for allegedly strangling girlfriend in violent domestic dispute

Hollywood actor Jonathan Majors was reportedly arrested in New York City this Saturday after a woman alleged that he’d assaulted her during a domestic dispute.

The alleged victim is his girlfriend, according to TMZ’s law enforcement sources.

“Per our law enforcement sources, police were told that the alleged victim is Majors’ girlfriend — and, according to her, they got into an argument while in a taxi returning home from a bar in Brooklyn,” the tabloid outlet reported.

“Our sources say police were told the girlfriend saw another woman texting Majors, and she confronted him — trying to sneak a peek at his phone. We’re told the alleged victim/GF claims this got Majors mad, and that he allegedly grabbed her hand and allegedly slapped her.”

The alleged victim also claimed that he at one point put his hands around her neck.

After the incident, Majors reportedly dropped the victim off and then spent the night elsewhere. The following morning, the victim contacted the police.

“Our sources tell us the alleged victim had visible injuries — including a laceration behind her ear, redness and marks to her face. She was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition,”  according to TMZ.

Local law enforcement subsequently arrested Majors on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment.

Later that evening, a judge reportedly released him without bail. He’s due back in court in two months.

The actor has for his part declared his innocence.

“He’s done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up,” one of his reps told TMZ and other media outlets.

Critics say that if the allegations turn out to be true, it could be “career suicide” for the actor:

Prior to this incident, Majors was a skyrocketing superstar actor. He recently starred in the film “Creed III.”

“According to reports, Creed III launched with $58.6 million. That amount is the highest debut for the Creed franchise. The original made $29.6 million in its opening weekend in 2015,” AllHipHop reported earlier this month.

“Furthermore, Creed III reportedly broke the record for the highest domestic box office debut for a sports movie. The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production also brought in $100,458,008 at the international box office,” the entertainment news site added.

His performance in the film earned him critical acclaim.

“Creed III’s plot pivots on melodramatic revelations and buried secrets—the forgotten ‘brother’ you didn’t know Adonis had, and the guilty memories we try to forget rising to the surface again like an undead revenant in the Cape Fear river. A large reason that it’s so effectively devastating though is Majors’ ferocious performance as Damian,” one review from Den of Geek reads.

“He’s getting a lot more attention these days because of his role of Kang in the MCU, but Creed III is the most captivating he’s been in this reviewer’s mind since his breakout work in The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” it continues.

MCU is short for Marvel Comic Universe. He reportedly played the Marvel character Kang the Conqueror in the film “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”

For this, he also received rave reviews:
