President Donald Trump praised Senator Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, despite previous bad blood between the pair.
Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday to claim that Paul has been benefiting from what he dubs the “Massie Massacre,” after Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky. The president has publicly expressed his displeasure with both lawmakers, who maintain a more libertarian stance on issues like the Iran War, tariffs and other policies.

“THE MASSIE MASSACRE in the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky has had a really great impact on Senator Rand Paul who will be running in two years. He’s been terrific, lately!” Trump posted.
This is a far cry from previous comments he has made about the senator, including a June 2025 claim that the people of Kentucky “can’t stand him.”

The two have butted heads a number of times. BizPac Review previously reported in November 2025 that Paul distanced himself from Trump and condemned the president’s rhetoric about Democratic lawmakers.
“Is the President holding himself to the same standard that he is asking of others when it comes to dialing back dangerous rhetoric?” CBS’s Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan asked the senator.
“You know, everybody knows that the President is famous for his unfiltered social media. But if you take it face value, the idea that calling your opponents traitors — and then specifically saying that it warrants the death penalty — is reckless, inappropriate, irresponsible. There are a number of other ways to describe it. But it’s not something that is helping the country heal wounds. I think it stirs things up,” Paul said.
“Are we at the point here where it’s not just unfiltered social media posts, but truly dangerous rhetoric?” Brennan grilled.
“Well, you know, I’ve been on the receiving side of this. Even my father, who’s been retired for some time, has been on the receiving end of swatting. Police are called, says there’s an emergency in the home, and the goal is to, you know, have someone draw a gun and be killed as the police come in, supposedly to rescue someone who’s not really in need of being rescued. So, I think both sides have been doing this. And I think the language on treason and traitors, both to Republicans and Democrats, is, as I said, reckless, inappropriate, irresponsible,” he explained.
It remains to be seen if Trump’s favorable impression of Paul will continue, or if the senator’s criticism over the Iran War will result in more attacks.
