‘America, we have lost this city!’ Pastor scolds Dearborn city council on Sharia law

Fireworks erupted at a Tuesday City Council meeting in Dearborn, Michigan, the overwhelmingly Muslim Detroit suburb that is the site of what the media is describing as an “anti-Islam” protest.

During the town hall-style meeting, a black pastor delivered a fire-and-brimstone scolding to local officials over what he perceives as the imposition of Islamic Sharia law amid fears that the city is becoming increasingly unmoored from American law and Western tradition.

“America, we have lost this city. This is a city that is no longer up under American laws; we are up under Sharia law. We will not have it anymore,” raged Pastor Lorenzo Sewell.

“Enough is enough,” added Sewell, who heads up the Christian 180 Church in the Motor City. “You are only 1 percent of this nation. We are not a nation of Muslims.”

“Sewell’s references to the implementation of Sharia law don’t refer to actual legislation looking to codify Muslim religious practices. Instead, they’re based on what he sees as a form of favoritism applied unevenly to Muslims in the name of religious freedom,” according to Fox News.

During his rant, Sewell referred to the lack of accountability for Muslim thugs who assaulted local activist Jake Lang, who led the “Christian Crusader March,” a protest that has made national headlines.

“You are not up under American law. You are up under Sharia law. That is the reason why you have made no arrests,” he said of the incident that took place earlier this month.

Described as an “Islamophobic provocateur” by The New York Times, Lang said he was hit in the head with a rock in the attack reminiscent of a barbaric stoning right out of the Middle Ages.

The scheduled meeting was moved from the usual location at the Dearborn Administrative Center to the Henry Ford Centennial Library as local authorities braced for the demonstration.

“The Muslims have not come here to assimilate,” Lang said at the meeting, the Times reported. “They have come here to steal the wealth of this land, to rape our women!”

Police made 22 arrests during the protest, with police chief Issa Shahin saying that officers “met a challenging and rapidly evolving situation with the professionalism this community expects, keeping everyone safe, protecting the constitutional rights of those who came to be heard,” according to Fox 2 Detroit.

Dearborn boasts the highest percentage of Muslim residents of any U.S. city and is known to be a hotbed of pro-terrorist sentiment, having been branded as “America’s jihad capital” in a February 2024 Wall Street Journal op-ed.

“When people portray Dearborn as some place that has been overtaken by Muslims, they aren’t simply attacking our Muslim and Arab communities. They’re also trying to erase our Christian brothers and sisters who have contributed immeasurably to the city and folks of other faiths,” Democrat Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said at the meeting.
