‘America’s not America anymore’: Woman from Spain questions freedom over reaction to ‘MAGA 24’ shirt

An immigrant from Spain has gone viral for questioning the level of freedom that exists (or doesn’t exist) in modern America.

“In other countries like Spain where I am from, you always hear about how free it is in America and how lucky the people there are to have democracy. That does not seem to be true anymore,” immigrant Ada Lluch wrote in a Twitter post Saturday.

Why is it no longer true? She pointed to what happened to her when she recently chose to wear a “Make America Great Again” shirt to the mall.

“I wore this shirt to the mall yesterday and I got so many looks of hatred from people who do not even know me. I had to take it off because I was afraid they would do me physical harm,” she wrote.

“This is not how America is supposed to be. Where is the democracy? Am I not free to dress as I please? Millions of people come here to escape fascism and political oppression. If I cannot wear a MAGA sweatshirt without fear of being attacked, America is not America anymore.”

By Sunday morning, the tweet had attracted over one million views and 16,000 likes, in addition to thousands of comments, some of them in agreement.

“When we came to America, ‘agree to disagree’ was the rule of thumb. It was what made America stronger & better, than even our homeland. I still speak/read/write German. Still eat German dishes whenever I can. But we came here to be Americans. Now America is like Europe,” one supporter tweeted.

There was also some pushback, though not all of it hateful as one might expect.

“That depends on what part of this country you are staying in. I live in North Dakota and it’s pretty much the old USA I grew up in. People here are proud of our country and accomplishments. We have freedoms,” one critic pointed out.

“What part of the country was the mall you were at in? I wear my MAGA hat often in public and see others as well. I never get negative comments but I do get positive ones and a lot of them,” another critic noted.

As for the HATEFUL pushback from leftists, it was exactly what you’d expect.

Case in point:

The irony is that zealous Trump haters are the ones with a history of behaving like Nazis. Recall that between 2016 and 2020, a number of  Trump supporters were assaulted for simply wearing MAGA-themed gear — including even a 77-year-old.

“A 77-year-old military veteran described how he was attacked in Red Bluff, apparently because he was wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) hat supporting President Donald Trump. The attack happened Friday, September 18 in broad daylight at the Red Bluff post office,” station KRCR reported in September of 2020.

The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, told the station that he was wearing a MAGA hat and “Back the Blue” mask when he was approached by a man and woman.

“Then somehow he got me in a headlock and started pounding me on top of my head … I got blood all over the place and I’m trying to figure, you know, where’s my hat, where’s my package?” the victim said.
