Troy Jackson is the Democratic nominee voters tapped to challenge incumbent Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R), after Graham Platner dropped from the race over allegations of rape by an ex-girlfriend.
However, as it turns out, Jackson may have a few questions tossed his way about personal behavior after reports that he is in a long-term relationship with his second cousin, Lana Pelletier — high school sweethearts, the couple apparently never married but have two children together.
That’s according to a report by independent journalist Steve Robinson, who said their relationship is not only legal under state law, but common in rural areas of northern Maine.
More from the New York Post:
Since 1985, Maine law prohibits marriages to an individual’s parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, or uncles.
The law initially banned first coustin marriage, but an amendment passed two years later allows such unions if the would-be betrothed present a certificate of genetic counseling signed by a phyisician and certifying their potential children have an acceptably low risk of physical deformity or cognitive impairment.
Jackson, a logger and former president of the Maine Senate, has previously referred to Pelletier as his wife, according to reports. Their children are now grown adults.
Aside from questionable decisions in his personal life, Jackson is a hard-left Democrat who is anti-Israel, pro-LGBTQ, advocates for the abolishment of ICE, for passing a law to make abortions a federal right, and supports government-run healthcare.
His campaign spews Communist Party phrasing, such as “working families.”
“It’s about damn time to put power back in the hands of the people and send someone to Washington who will fight for the working families who are just trying to get ahead,” the official Jackson website declares.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
He says he’s running to bring Maine families closer together. I think the man has done enough!

Marine democrats are a special breed… or rather inbred.

This happens in small towns, and those voters are mostly GOP, so I don’t think it’s going to gain any votes to make a big deal over this.
