Another one jumping ship: Kamala’s office plagued by another high level departure

Vice President Kamala Harris’ office will be seeing the departure of another high-level staffer at the end of this month.

While Harris’ office denies reports of alleged internal frustrations, the imminent loss of another top aide seems to tell another story. The vice president will be losing Symone Sanders, a senior adviser and the chief spokesperson for Harris, who will reportedly exit at the end of the month, reported Politico which cited “five administration officials familiar with the matter.”

Sanders had served as a senior adviser to the Biden campaign during the 2020 election before joining the transition team and then Harris’ office.

“I’m so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been,” Sanders told staff in a note Wednesday, according to Politico.

“I’m grateful for [Harris chief of staff] Tina [Flournoy] and her leadership and her confidence as well. Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you,” the note read.

The news of Sanders’ exit comes on the heels of an announcement from the vice president’s communications director, Ashley Etienne, who said last month that she will also be leaving in a few weeks.

In a separate message to the vice president’s team, Harris chief of staff Tina Flournoy said, “Symone told the VP a couple months ago that she’d be leaving us at the end of the year. I’ve often said about her that no job is too big or too small for Symone.”

NBC News cited a White House official who said Wednesday that Biden and Harris “were ‘grateful’ for Sanders’ work on behalf of the administration and called her a ‘team player’ who will be missed.”

Politico cited an official in Harris’ office who confirmed the report about Sanders and said Harris and President Joe Biden have “known for a while.”

There has reportedly been no indication of what the future plans will be for Sanders and news of her imminent departure sparked many questions as well as some suggestions about where she is headed.

With recent reports about tensions growing between the president and vice president’s teams, amid cratering approval ratings for both, and the low prospects of a Biden 2024 campaign – as well as the potential of Harris to even succeed him – the news of Sanders’ departure has fueled more questions about the apparent disarray in the White House.
