AOC condemns ‘bigotry and callousness’ at pro-Palestine NYC rally; troubling events erupt around the world

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) surprisingly blasted a pro-Palestinian rally that was held over the weekend for its “bigotry and callousness” after Hamas terrorists savagely attacked Israel.

The rally took place on Sunday in Times Square as western pro-Palestinian support grows. Hamas killed at least 900 Israelis and kidnapped more than a thousand civilians and yet there are many who are siding with genocidal Palestine.

“Despite a heavy police presence at the rally, there were some clashes between pro-Palestinian activists, whose signs portrayed the attack as a legitimate form of political resistance, and pro-Israel demonstrators, who decried the protesters as antisemitic and terrorist sympathizers,” NBC News reported.

“The rally had been promoted by Democratic Socialists of America, a left-wing group that helped elect Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives, but it faced criticism from some of its own elected officials for endorsing the event, which was held even before Israel had been able to count the dead,” the news outlet continued.

It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it. That is a core tenet of solidarity,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement that was sent to Politico’s New York affiliate late Monday.

“The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment,” she asserted. “It also did not speak for the thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under occupation.”

The DSA is being hammered for the rally.

“The New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is facing a political firestorm after the organization promoted a pro-Palestine rally in the wake of Hamas militants’ attacks on Israeli communities,” Politico reported.

“The group did not organize Sunday’s rally, its leadership said Monday. But several lawmakers with DSA ties are distancing themselves from what was said at the event,” the news outlet stated.

Radical leftists within the Democrat Party have grown ever more supportive of Palestinians and more hateful towards Israel in recent years. Some of them go so far as to compare the treatment of Palestinians to Apartheid South Africa. A number of Democrats actively promote anti-Israeli actions like the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

“Jewish leaders, including some on the left otherwise sympathetic to the plight of Palestinians, have long expressed concern that that kind of rhetoric and targeted action help normalize antisemitism, creating an ugly point of friction inside the progressive movement and between the movement and the Democratic Party, which has flared up on multiple occasions,” NBC News noted.

“Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives have tried to straddle the divide by expressing support for Palestinians while reaffirming support for Israel’s right to exist, but they have often faced criticism for it, mostly accused of being too soft on Palestinian militants,” the outlet added.

Ocasio-Cortez released a statement claiming that the terrorist attacks were “devastating for all those seeking a lasting peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine” and said, “I condemn Hamas’ attack in the strongest possible terms.”

Then she showed her true colors by calling for an “immediate ceasefire and de-escalation.” After the atrocities visited on Israel by Hamas, that is no longer an acceptable option. Now, the eradication of Hamas, backed by Iran, is on the table.

In a statement, NYC-DSA Steering Committee Member Nadia Tykulsker contended that the group promoted the event “at the request of a coalition partner because we believe in equality and justice for all Palestinians and Israelis, and we know that war will take more lives.”

“It is shameful that politicians in our state are exploiting this moment to target a socialist organization and divide the vibrant left in New York — whose sole aim in politics is to grow the power of working people for freedom against exploitation and oppression — instead of focusing our attention where it should be: on the atrocities and tragic loss of life in the region,” she said.

More than 1,000 attended the rally. Some chanted, “Resistance is justified when people are occupied.”
