Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has filed articles of impeachment against two Supreme Court justices, marking a rapid escalation in the Left’s clear-cut, continued war on democracy.
In defending her outrageous assault on democracy, the far-leftist legislator cited undisclosed “gifts” that Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have received over the years.
She conveniently made no mention of the “gifts” and other “income” that the court’s more leftist justices have likewise received.
She also complained about the two justices refusing to recuse themselves from certain cases that she claimed were linked back to them.
Corruption, without consequence, infects all it touches. Congress must exercise its powers to impeach.
The corruption of Justices Thomas & Alito constitutes a clear danger to our democracy. I moved to impeach them because it is the right thing to do for the American people. pic.twitter.com/eOscx9avE1

Again, Ocasio-Cortez conveniently neglected to mention that the court’s leftist justices have also at times refused to recuse themselves from cases linked back to them and their friends and family members.
For example, the New York Post confirmed last year that left-wing Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor never recused herself from a myriad of cases pertaining to a book publisher, Penguin Random House, that’d paid out over $3 million to her since 2010.
“Sotomayor earned $3.6 million from Penguin Random House and its subsidiaries for agreeing to let them publish her 2013 memoir, ‘My Beloved World,’ and numerous children’s books since then,” the Post reported.
“The same year that her memoir came out, Sotomayor voted on whether the high court should take up Aaron Greenspan v. Random House,” according to the Post.
But whereas fellow Justice Stephen Breyer, who’d also received payment from Random House, recused himself from the case, Sotomayor refused, after which Democrats and their media allies predictably said nothing.
Ocasio-Cortez has been on the warpath against the court’s more right-leaning justices ever since the court ruled on immunity for former President Donald Trump earlier this month:
The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control.
Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture.
I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.

“The unchecked corruption crisis on the Supreme Court has now spiraled into a Constitutional crisis threatening American democracy writ large,” Ocasio-Cortez said this week in a lengthy statement. “Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed.”
“The Constitution of the United States explicitly outlines a higher standard of conduct for the judiciary to meet, far surpassing its existing bars on treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors for all civil officers: the standard of Good Behavior. Judicial ethics and rules, to which even the lowest level judges are held, make those standards clear. The lifetime appointments of Supreme Court justices make enforcement of these standards a solemn responsibility for the protection of our democracy,” she added.
“Justice Thomas and Alito’s repeated failure over decades to disclose that they received millions of dollars in gifts from individuals with business before the court is explicitly against the law. And their refusal to recuse from the specific matters and cases before the court in which their benefactors and spouses are implicated represents nothing less than a constitutional crisis. These failures alone would amount to a deep transgression worthy of standard removal in any lower court, and would disqualify any nominee to the highest court from confirmation in the first place,” she concluded.
Responding to her filing of articles of impeachment, critics were quick to remind the radical congresswoman that the high court isn’t illegitimate just because she doesn’t like its rulings.
The criticism was based on the strong belief that the left’s war on the high court has been rooted in nothing but political grievance — as evidenced by the Left’s hypocrisy on such matters.
Look:
Dear communist: a judge making a ruling you do not like is not corruption.

Just because you don’t like a ruling doesn’t mean that it’s a wrong decision. AOC needs to grow up and stop being a victim when something doesn’t go her way.

Dems and AOC would like to replace judges who interpret the Constitution with judges who are more like legislators who will rubber stamp Dem policies and probably re-interpret Article 2.

If you cared about corruption, you’d be filing articles of impeachment against those who were corrupt, regardless of what political ‘side’ they might be on. When are you doing one for Nancy Pelosi, for the 100s of millions she’s added to her bank account thru insider trading?
