An odd alliance of GOP lawmakers led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her left-wing “Squad” came together to pressure President Joe Biden over the expected extradition of Julian Assange.
The WikiLeaks founder has been rotting in prison in the UK while the process plays out that could ultimately result in him being sent to the United States where he will likely spend the rest of his days locked up in a Supermax federal prison as punishment for practicing journalism.
In a letter to Biden, Greene and fellow Republicans Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), and Matthew Rosendale (R-Mont.), joined AOC and her cadre of yappy antisemites to call for an end to the persecution of the native Australian.

In the two-page letter dated November 8, the sixteen lawmakers called on the president “to withdraw the U.S. extradition request currently pending against Australian publisher Julian Assange” and “halt all prosecutorial proceedings against him as soon as possible.”
“We are aware that the Assange case has been cited by officials of the People’s Republic of China to claim that the U.S. is ‘hypocritical’ when it comes to purported support for media freedom. We are also well aware that should the U.S. extradition and prosecution go forward, there is a significant risk that our bilateral relationship with Australia will be badly damaged,” the lawmakers warn.
“It is the duty of journalists to seek out sources, including documentary evidence, in order to report to the public on the activities of government. The United States must not pursue an unnecessary prosecution that risks criminalizing common journalistic practices and thus chilling the work of the free press. We urge you to ensure that this case be brought to a close in as timely a manner as possible,” the letter reads.
The peculiar bipartisan collection of lawmakers makes a good argument that has been completely ignored by the media that the U.S. under the Biden regime has squandered the nation’s longstanding moral authority with its own despotic actions including censorship, the persecution of journalists, the jailing of political opposition and the current ongoing trials of former President Donald J. Trump, the top opposition candidate.
Assange became a hated enemy of Democrats after WikiLeaks published the embarrassing emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta in excruciating drip, drip, drip fashion like Chinese water torture in the runup to the 2016 presidential election with the loss of the entitled former secretary of state making it inevitable that he would be made to pay dearly for what many believe was an offense that swung the election to Trump.
Last week, Tucker Carlson posted a cryptic message to X that he was visiting Assange at Belmarsh Prison.

Also signing the letter to Biden are Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Cori Bush (D-Mo.), Greg Casar (D-Texas), and Chuy Garcia (D-Ill.), most of whom took a rare break from parroting Hamas talking points against Israel to take a principled stand.
Considering the revenge factor, it’s highly unlikely that Biden will lift a finger to help Assange.
