AOC rails against ‘shameful’ U.S. veto of UN ceasefire resolution

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) denounced the Biden administration as “shameful” after the U.S. vetoed a United Nations resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

On Friday, the resolution for a humanitarian ceasefire in Israel’s war on the Hamas terror organization, which was backed by nearly all of the Security Council members, was shot down by the United States, drawing an angry reaction from critics of the Jewish state as well as the Democratic party’s ideological thought leader.

“Shameful,” wrote the socialist diva on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, expressing her displeasure with Biden’s foreign policy.

“The Biden Admin can no longer reconcile their professed concern for Palestinians and human rights while also single-handedly vetoing the UN’s call for ceasefire and sidestepping the entire US Congress to unconditionally back the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza,” AOC added, accusing President Joe Biden and his regime of not practicing what they preach.

The vote in the 15-member Security Council on the resolution that was brought forth by the United Arab Emirates was 13-1 with the U.S. being the sole vote against and the UK abstaining. It drew the support of key allies including France and Japan.

The “Squad” leader was shredded by X users over siding with the terrorists.

In an explanation for the veto, U.S. Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood said that a “rushed process” and the unwillingness to condemn the barbaric October 7th Hamas attack on Israeli civilian areas in which over 1,200 people were slaughtered, including the elderly, women, and children, many of whom were primitively butchered in their own homes.

“We still cannot comprehend why the resolution’s authors declined to include language condemning Hamas’ horrific terrorist attack on Israel on October 7. An attack that killed over 1,200 people. Women, children, the elderly. People from a range of nationalities. Burned alive. Gunned down. Subject to obscene sexual violence,” Wood stated.

“We are very disappointed that for the victims of these heinous acts, the resolution’s authors offered not their condolences, nor condemnation of their murderers. It’s unfathomable. Nor is there condemnation of the sexual violence unleashed by Hamas on October 7,” he added.

“What is the message we are sending Palestinians if we cannot unite behind a call to halt the relentless bombardment of Gaza?” UAE Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Abushaha said after the UN Security Council vote. “Indeed, what is the message we are sending civilians across the world who may find themselves in similar situations?”
