Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was called out after she told constituents that working-class residents are fleeing New York City in droves because it’s too costly to live there without an accurate explanation of why.
The left-wing diva and ideological thought leader of the modern Democratic party expounded on her thoughts during a tele-town hall while discussing Gotham’s migrant crisis and deep cuts to essential services being made by Mayor Eric Adams to underwrite the living costs for the new arrivals.
“Why is the only conversation in the room cuts and why is there no conversation about revenue raising?” AOC asked, suggesting that the idea that higher taxes would “push the wealthy” out of the city isn’t backed up by the data.
“The people who are moving out of the city are not… are not by and large the wealthiest people. They’re the working class. They can’t afford to live here anymore,” AOC said while calling for the socialist solution of higher taxes on the wealthy.
“For once, AOC is right: “They can’t afford to live here anymore,” the New York Post Editorial Board said in a smoking response to her claim.

“The thing is, it’s the policies that she and her progressive allies want more of that have made the city so expensive,” the paper pointed out, noting that the cutbacks in funding for city agencies and exorbitant rent are the result of the policies championed by herself and her fellow leftists.
“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, is, after all, a Democratic Socialist,” the Editorial Board wrote. Look at what occasioned the digital town hall where she spoke: recently announced cuts across city agencies. Why are these needed?”
“To pay for the migrants AOC and her ilk demand we admit in infinite numbers, and house and feed forever at a cost of more than $12 billion through fiscal 2025 (and that’s a conservative estimate),” the outlet said, adding that leftist policies have also led to the shortage of affordable housing that according to a recent survey, has 1 of 3 New Yorkers paying over half their income in rent.
“And this is to say nothing of the state’s ‘Green New Deal’ climate laws that are already sending power prices for New Yorkers skyward,” the Post added of the true cost of the climate cult agenda that AOC was at the forefront of pushing.
The paper also reminded readers that the “reforms” to the criminal justice system demanded by leftists have led to “billions of dollars stolen by shoplifting thugs from retailers big and small,” a consequence of policies that have emboldened thugs and criminals in the Big Apple.
“AOC and her fellow leftists simply don’t care what their ideas actually mean for the people whose interests they claim to represent,” the Post Editorial Board said, predicting that sticking with progressive ideology will only lead to an acceleration of the “exodus” from New York as it becomes even more unaffordable.
