Archer says Biden ‘brand’ used as legal ‘intimidation’ against foreign biz partners, damning new transcript shows

The Republican-led House Oversight Committee released the 141-page transcript of Devon Archer’s damning testimony on Thursday, in which the former friend and business partner of Hunter Biden stated, among other things, that Hunter’s “value” to the Burisma board was his access to his then-vice president father Joe Biden and his ability to use the Biden “brand” as “defensive leverage.”

Asked if Hunter talked “about how bringing his dad either to Ukraine or using his dad as Vice President would add value in the eyes of Burisma officials,” Archer answered that Hunter would not “overtly” say “we’re going to use my dad for this,” but “given the brand, I think he would look to, you know, to get the leverage from it,” the transcript reveals.

“I think it’s more defensive, you know, defensive leverage that the value is there in his work,” Archer said.

“The value was — the value that Hunter Biden brought to it was having — you know, there was — the theoretical was corporate governance, but obviously, given the brand, that was a large part of the value,” he explained. “I don’t think it was the sole value, but I do think that was a key component of the value.”

“I think there was — there are particular, you know, objectives that Burisma was trying to accomplish,” Archer said. “And a lot of it’s about opening doors, you know, globally in D.C. And I think… obviously having those doors opened, you know, sent the right signals, you know, for Burisma to, you know, carry on its business and be successful.”

“Obviously, that all backfired, you know, terribly for them,” he added.

Asked by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), “Did you or your partners design or seek to use political influence to help you raise capital or further your business?” Archer replied, “We would discuss having, you know, an understanding of D.C., and that was a differentiating component of us being able to raise capital.”

“It wasn’t as, you know, specific as, okay, you know, just down to individuals or, you know, the Vice President’s son,” he said. “But, obviously, the brand carried.”

“Did you intimate ever that that would give you some kind of unique access, as you were meeting with clients or businesses, unique access because of the familial relationship that Hunter Biden had with his father, at that time the Vice President?” Rep. Biggs asked.

“Yes, we would say we had unique understanding of D.C. and how it operates and how that, you know, could positively reflect on the terms of our business,” Archer replied. “So, yes.”

Without the Biden “brand,” Archer said he believed “Burisma would have gone out of business.”

“Because people would be intimidated to mess with them,” he explained.

“In what way?” pressed Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.).

“Legally,” Archer replied.

In a statement, the White House dismissed Archer’s testimony as a nothingburger.

“It appears that the House Republicans’ own much-hyped witness today testified that he never heard of President Biden discussing business with his son or his son’s associates, or doing anything wrong,” White House spokesperson Ian Sams told Fox News Digital. “House Republicans keep promising bombshell evidence to support their ridiculous attacks against the President, but time after time, they keep failing to produce any.”
