Argentina’s Javier Milei becomes first world leader to meet with Trump post-election

Argentina President Javier Milei became the first foreign leader to meet with President-elect Trump since last week’s election.

Milei, aka “the Lion,” attended the America First Policy Institute’s (AFPI) gala Thursday evening at Mar-a-Lago and will stay through Saturday for the CPAC Investor Summit, according to Fox News. In a post shared on X, Milei said he will be the only other world leader at the summit.

A self-described “anarcho-capitalist,” Milei has drawn worldwide attention for his pro-market approach over the past year that has slashed inflation in Argentina.

He was highly complimentary of Trump while delivering remarks at Mar-a-Lago, saying with last week’s election the world “is a much better place, and the winds of freedom are blowing much stronger.”

“This has been the greatest political comeback in history, defying the entire political establishment, even at the risk of his own life,” Milei said in Spanish, with an interpreter on hand to repeat his message in English.

He also praised Musk, who was on hand, for his efforts to advance free speech and counter censorship.

“There is a silent or rather silent majority that has begun to make itself heard despite the enemies of freedom clinging to power through propaganda, distortion, and censorship,” Milei said. “And this is why I would especially like to thank the great Elon Musk for the wonderful job he has been doing to save humanity in communication around the world.”

Trump dubbed the Argentina president a “MAGA person” while delivering his own remarks.

“The job you’ve done is incredible. Make Argentina Great Again, you know, MAGA. He’s a MAGA person,” Trump said. “And you know, he’s doing that.”

Trump would also heap praise on Elon Musk while poking a little fun at him.

“Elon Musk! What a job he does,” the president-elect said. “And he happens to be a really good guy. He likes this place, I can’t get him out of here!”

“And I like having him here too. Incredible mind, unbelievable entrepreneur,” he added. “I asked him what he does best, and we couldn’t figure it out.”
