Bad news for Hunter Biden who could face more charges from LA grand jury

Hunter Biden’s legal troubles could be about to take a turn for the worse with a new report that a California grand jury is being used to obtain documents and the testimony of witnesses in what is believed to be a tax case against the presidential son.

According to CNN, special counsel David Weiss is using the Los Angeles grand jury in the ongoing probe into the younger Biden’s business dealings with it believed that the activities are focused on his failure to pay his taxes by Internal Revenue Service deadlines.

The report, which cites the now-standard anonymous sources in “people familiar with the probe,” states that one of those who has recently received a subpoena is James Biden, the president’s brother and Hunter Biden’s uncle as well as a central figure in the political elite family’s alleged influence-peddling schemes.

CNN legal analyst Elie Honig said that the grand jury could be “bad news” for Hunter Biden during an appearance on “Anderson Cooper 360” on Thursday night.

“It’s bad news for Hunter Biden any way you slice this,” he told Cooper. “And let’s remember, he already has a pending indictment in the federal district court in Delaware for the firearms-related charges.”

“And now he potentially is looking at a second indictment out of California,” he continued. “And if we think about the potential tax charges here, it’s important to keep in mind, when Hunter Biden went into court a few months ago with DOJ, they had a deal that he was going plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses, and they agreed. DOJ and Hunter Biden agreed that he had failed to pay over $1 million in income taxes that he owed,” he added, referring to the “sweetheart deal” that was scuttled by Judge Maryellen Noreika over the summer.

“So assuming, which I think is a fair assumption that DOJ has evidence of that, that feels like the minimum charges he may face. It may get worse,” Honig said. “But it’s important to understand the fact that there’s a grand jury does not ensure that there will be an indictment, but it certainly does make it more likely. And that’s a problem.”

The Bidens were tight-lipped after the news broke.

“Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s attorney, declined to comment. Counsel for James Biden declined to comment,” CNN reported. “The White House referred questions on the matter to the Justice Department, where a spokesperson declined to comment.”

In September, Weiss indicted Hunter Biden on three federal firearms charges related to his lying about his drug use when he purchased a Colt Cobra .38 caliber revolver from a Delaware gun shop in 2018. Biden’s addiction problems with illicit substances, particularly crack cocaine are well known.

CNN’s scoop comes after President Joe Biden’s son was subpoenaed by House Republicans last week as they conduct their investigation into Biden family corruption with Hunter Biden’s shady foreign business dealings holding the key to a potential impeachment of his father.

Also receiving a subpoena from House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) was James Biden.

“The House Oversight Committee has followed the money and built a record of evidence revealing how Joe Biden knew, was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes. Now, the House Oversight Committee is going to bring in members of the Biden family and their associates to question them on this record of evidence,” Comer said in a statement announcing the subpoenas for Biden’s son and brother.
