Biden calls for new gun laws in aftermath of Sacramento massacre that left six dead

In keeping with the Liberal mantra of “never letting a good crisis go to waste,” President Joe Biden hardly waited for the bodies to be cleared from the street in Sacramento following a shooting that left six dead before calling for sweeping new gun laws.

“Ban ghost guns,” said Biden in a White House statement released even as police in California’s capital continued their hunt for at least two suspected gunmen. “Require background checks for all gun sales. Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Repeal gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability.”

The call for Congress to act sounds tough and timely, but the president failed to mention that California already has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation.

“They’ve banned high-capacity magazines and cracked down on assault weapons,” the Sacramento Bee reported Sunday. “They’ve made it so Californians have to pass a background check to purchase a gun and ammunition. They’ve prohibited buyers from having ammo or ‘ghost’ gun parts shipped directly to their homes. When it comes to gun laws, California’s legislators have passed some of the most stringent regulations in the country, checking off nearly every box on national gun control advocates’ wishlist.”

But as BizPac Review reported, none of these already enacted infringements on the Second Amendment prevented a bar brawl in Sacramento’s trendy entertainment district from turning deadly, as gunmen allegedly fired some 50 rounds, killing six and injuring 10.

Still, Governor Gavin Newsom, in a prepared statement, used the tragedy to target the guns rather than the shooters.

“What we do know at this point is that another mass casualty shooting has occurred, leaving families with lost loved ones, multiple individuals injured and a community in grief,” Newsom said. “The scourge of gun violence continues to be a crisis in our country, and we must resolve to bring an end to this carnage.”

As The Bee noted, Newsom has already signed 15 gun-control measures into law in California.

The California paper asked, “what else can California’s lawmakers do to restrict guns that they haven’t already done — and have their laws survive the inevitable challenge by Second Amendment advocates?”

According to Biden, “we must act.”

“That is why my Administration has taken historic executive action to implement my comprehensive gun crime reduction strategy — from standing up gun trafficking strike forces to helping cities across the country expand community violence interventions and hire more police officers for community policing,” Biden said.

“Pass my budget proposal, which would give cities more of the funding they need to fund the police and fund the crime prevention and intervention strategies that can make our cities safer,” the president continued. “These are just a few of the steps Congress urgently needs to take to save lives.”

On social media, many see the politicization of yet another tragedy as nothing more than another attempt by Democrats to grab guns from law-abiding citizens.

“Gun laws only hurt law-abiding gun owners,” tweeted one user. “Gun laws empower criminals. Bad people will always find a gun — especially with Biden’s open southern border policy.”

“Here we go,” wrote another. “We knew this was coming. In Texas we all have a firearm. I’d get one now if you don’t have one.”
