Biden declares the pandemic ‘is over’ in 60 Minutes interview and people have questions

And just like that, the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

President Biden declared the pandemic is over during a “60 Minutes” softball interview aired Sunday evening, which is either the best indication that Democrats see no more obtainable value in exploiting the virus gifted upon the world courtesy of Beijing OR that the president’s staff will be busy Monday walking back Biden’s remarks.

The interview was conducted in part at the Detroit Auto Show, with CBS News anchor Scott Pelly pointing out that it was the first show in three years, before asking if the pandemic is over.

“The pandemic is over,” Biden responded. “We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. It’s — but the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think this is a perfect example of it.”

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., took to Twitter after the declaration to state the obvious, “If ‘the pandemic is over’ as Biden says, then all of the President’s emergency powers predicated on a pandemic, all COVID vax mandates, the emergency powers of every governor, Emergency Use Authorizations, and the PREP act should all be voided tomorrow.”

Of course, the pandemic may be over but not the lust for such sweeping authoritarian powers as the nation saw exercised in the early days of Covid-19, powers that allowed officials to alter the electoral process in America and, in the eyes of millions, deliver the current commander in chief.

In many states, officials are still enforcing vaccine mandates. In New York City, another 850 teachers and classroom aides were just shown the door for being unvaxxed, bringing the total close to two thousand.

The president’s public declaration about the pandemic being over prompted plenty of questions… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
