Another event on the world stage was just one more opportunity for President Joe Biden to embarrass the U.S. and confirm his critics’ fears about his mental state.
As world leaders at the APEC summit stood shoulder to shoulder in a group photo opportunity, Biden seemed more than distracted and even confused by the moment.
The president watched two of the leaders move positions on the platform while cameras clicked away, continued to look over his shoulder and, at one point, appeared to be speaking, perhaps to himself.

Representatives for 21 member economies joined Biden at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit being held in San Francisco.
Biden addressed innovation and achievement during a speech on Thursday but admitted he could not pronounce the name of one of the corporations as he named a list of others.
“IBM, Organon, Visa. Look, they make up, they make our region more resilient, make it more secure,” he said.
“Here in this world-renowned hub of innovation, leading tech companies like Anthropic and – I’m going to mispronounce. I’m not going to even try,” the president continued.
“It’s better not to try and not mispronounce than try and mispronounce,” he added, getting a polite laugh from the audience. “Point is, small and medium-sized business startups are getting an accent as well.”
Predictably, he seemed to have trouble figuring out how to exit the stage after a speech, a phenomenon that almost seems to be expected of the feeble 80-year-old nowadays.

Biden spoke twice at Thursday’s summit events and then had dinner with other leaders. A video clip ostensibly from that dinner showed Biden offering a bizarre “toast” in which he touched the glass to his lips but did not sip.

The day’s affairs occurred after he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping a day earlier. Amid the ongoing tense relations between the U.S. and China, Biden managed to create a stir when he answered a reporter’s question by referring to the Chinese president as a “dictator.”
Posts on social media focused on the visible wince from Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Social media users had mixed reactions to Biden’s confusion during Thursday’s photo op.
How long will they keep pretending? This is getting serious with all the stuff going on in the world.

Actually it looks like the other leaders were confused considering they are the ones in the wrong spot.
Morons.

He kinda just mentally went away for a little while when he saw the mark on the ground.
Then he pops back and is trying to figure out who all those people are and why are they standing there?— Sean (@seanm_m) November 17, 2023
