Biden press secretary refuses to answer question about possible lying

President Joe Biden appeared to slip over the weekend when he commented on a new deal made with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on aid to Ukraine, and his official spokesperson refused to confirm or deny any such deal when asked about it at Monday’s press briefing.

Biden was asked by a reporter whether he would trust McCarthy when the “next deal comes around,” and the 80-year-old geriatric president replied, “We just made one about Ukraine. So, we’ll find out.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was peppered about the comment on Monday and she refused to confirm if Biden’s claim of a deal being reached with Speaker McCarthy on funding Ukraine was true or not.

“What exactly did the president mean yesterday when he was asked if he could trust the speaker on the next deal, and he said, ‘We just made one about Ukraine.’ We just heard Matt Gaetz again on the floor, insisting there’s been some secret deal made between the president and the speaker,” a reporter asked.

Jean-Pierre replied, “When it relates to what the president said, I’m certainly not going to go beyond what he said.”

“What we know is that there’s bipartisan support for this deal. Again, Speaker McCarthy was on the air multiple times yesterday saying that he wants to — he certainly wants to continue support for Ukraine to get the weapons that they need. And so, we’re going to hold them to that. That is something that he has said. That is a commitment that he has made,” she added.

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who followed through late Monday on his threat to file a motion to vacate to remove McCarthy as speaker, accused the GOP leader of making a “secret side deal on Ukraine.”

A CBS reporter asked, “Why would the president say that he made a deal if he didn’t?”

“I’m just saying that what we’re seeing currently from Congress is that there has been overwhelming support,” Jean-Pierre replied. “That is what the president said.”

She was later asked, “Is it possible the president made a deal that you don’t know about?”

“I’m just saying that I’m not going to go beyond what the president said — just not going to go beyond that,” KJP answered.

Newsmax reporter James Rosen followed up to simply ask whether a deal was true or not and he hit the same brick wall.

“So is that true?” Rosen asked.

“I’m not gonna go beyond what the president said,” Jean-Pierre replied.

“So you won’t say what he said was true?” Rosen asked.

After repeating her answer, Rosen pressed again, “You’re declining to say what he said was true?”

“I just answered,” Jean-Pierre said, before moving on.
